Description

Registered Nurse – Progressive Care Unit

Location: Chapel Hill, North Carolina
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
Contract Length: 14 weeks


Job Summary

Provide competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards in a hospital setting. Responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care using the nursing process, reporting to nursing leadership.


Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver care to patients with complex conditions, addressing physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs.
  • Perform bedside point of care testing as required.
  • Assess patient and family readiness and ability to learn; use appropriate patient education materials.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to evaluate and revise patient care plans.
  • Organize and prioritize patient care based on individual needs.
  • Anticipate and assess discharge needs, supporting patient and family advocacy.
  • Participate in unit goals, performance improvement, and cost-effective care initiatives.
  • Promote a safe, clean, and secure hospital environment.
  • Engage in professional growth activities and provide feedback to coworkers.
  • Utilize effective communication systems within and across departments.
  • Apply current healthcare standards, policies, and procedures in care delivery.
  • Incorporate cultural and ethnic considerations into care planning.
  • Stay informed on relevant research and apply evidence-based practices.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
  • Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited nursing school
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Charge nurse experience
  • Precepting experience
