Interventional Radiology Tech (Travel/Contract)

Location: Charleston, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Specialty: Radiology / Cardiology (Interventional Radiology)
  • Shift: Day shift, 4x10-hour shifts (Monday-Friday), typically 7:30 AM – 6:00 PM
  • On-Call: Rotation includes weekdays and weekends; approximately 8 on-call days per month with a 30-minute response time; every third weekend required (5-6 total weekends during contract)
  • Floating: Required to float to a sister facility for 1 week during contract
  • Average Daily Census: 7-10 patients
  • Work Setting: Interventional vascular radiology suite performing peripheral angiography/venography with interventions such as EVAR, TEVAR, carotid stenting, neuro-intervention including acute stroke, embolization
  • Equipment: Fluoroscopy (Siemens preferred), Ultrasound preferred, PACS
  • Procedural Responsibilities:
    • Equipment setup and maintenance
    • EKG lead placement
    • Prep access site
    • Recognition of life-threatening arrhythmias
    • Room circulator and scrub role maintaining sterile field
    • Use of vascular closure systems (Perclose, StarClose)
  • Infection Control: Strict sterile technique required
  • Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week
  • Radius Rule: 100-mile radius; 75-99 miles requires facility approval

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Interventional Radiology Technologist license in West Virginia
  • Minimum 1 year of recent Interventional Radiology Technologist experience
  • ARRT certification
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification

Onboarding & Compliance Requirements

  • Orientation: Occurs every other Monday; 2-day orientation (Thursday and Friday) including Cerner Infusion Management training
  • Background Checks:
    • 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start
    • Includes SSN trace, county, sex offender, national, and international searches if applicable
  • Drug Screen: Must be within 30 days of start; includes standard panel (amphetamines, barbiturates, cocaine, opiates, PCP, benzodiazepines, methadone, propoxyphene)
  • Health Documents:
    • Physical exam within 1 year, signed by appropriate provider, confirming good health and no limitations
    • Annual fit mask testing (N95 3M 1860 Small/Regular or Aura 9205) required; PAPR accommodations available if fit test fails
    • Negative TB test within 3 months or negative chest X-ray if positive TB history
    • Tdap vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions accepted with approval)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella immunity required (vaccines or positive titers)
    • Hepatitis B vaccination or immunity documentation required
    • Varicella immunity required (vaccines or positive titers)
    • Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31) unless approved exemption; flu vaccine not required outside this window
    • COVID-19 vaccination not required (proof or declination accepted)
  • References: Minimum 2 manager/charge nurse references within past 2 years required
  • Skills Checklist: Annual specialty-specific skills checklist required
  • Driver’s License & Social Security Card: Valid driver's license and legible social security card required

  • Scrubs: Blue surgical scrubs provided by hospital
  • Charting System: Cerner
  • Parking: Free for travelers
  • Submission Restrictions: Permanent employees cannot return as travelers for 2 years after last permanent day worked at this facility
  • Blocked Schedule Requests: May be accommodated within reason, to be discussed during interview

This position offers a challenging role in a Level IV Trauma Center and major teaching hospital environment, focusing on advanced interventional radiology procedures with a supportive team and comprehensive orientation and compliance process.
