Description
Registered Nurse - Labor and Delivery (Travel Contract)
Location: Austin, Texas
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Hours per Week: 36
On-Call: No on-call required
Weekend Shifts: 4 weekend shifts scheduled
Unit Overview
- Level 4 designated maternal center providing the highest level of care for complex patients at any gestation.
- 22 beds total (16 labor beds).
- Approximately 100 staff including RNs and support personnel.
- Day shift staffing: 1 charge nurse, minimum 2 surgical techs, 1 unit clerk, and ~10 RNs.
- Weekend staffing: ~7 RNs.
- Patient ratios typically 1:2 or 1:1.
- Electronic Medical Records systems used: CPN and Meditech.
- The unit is undergoing renovations to update all rooms.
- Highly tenured staff with long-term leadership supportive of the team.
- Manager and Director actively assist with patient care when census requires.
Typical Procedures
- Vaginal and Cesarean section deliveries
- Tubal ligations
- Cerclage placement and removal
- Dilation and curettage (D&C)
- Cesarean hysterectomy (C-hyst)
- Placenta accreta spectrum disorder (PASD) cases
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 1 year of Labor and Delivery nursing experience within the last year
- Certifications:
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN)
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
- Experience circulating in the operating room (OR)
- Experience in triage

- Dress code: Navy blue scrubs required; certain attire is not acceptable.

- Holds the highest Level 4 Maternal Designation for the state of Texas.
Additional Notes
- Permanent positions available on nights and weekends.
- The unit uses standardized order sets and maintains a policy book for staff reference.
- The unit recruits travel RNs, local CNAs, and sitters.
- Candidates without required skills and certifications will not be considered.
