Registered Nurse (RN) - 6N Overflow

Location: Wheeling, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Details

• Unit size: 30 beds
• Patient types: CHF, COPD, cellulitis, rule out (R/O), cholecystitis, appendicitis, pneumonia, urosepsis, acute kidney injury (AKI)
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:6 to 1:7 (RN must be comfortable with up to 1:7)
• Charge nurse: One charge RN on the floor with assignment
• Nurse aides: Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) available on the unit
• Respiratory therapy equipment: No ventilators; intermittent BiPAP available
• Telemetry: Yes, monitored remotely by techs
• Drip titration: RNs required to titrate heparin drips based on aPTT results

Shift & Scheduling

• Shift: Nights
• Hours per shift: 12 hours
• Hours per week: 36 hours
• Scheduling system: Transitioning to Qgenda
• Weekends and holidays: Scheduled as needed, typically half of the weekends
• Standby/call: None
• Floating: As needed based on census; external travelers float first

Required Certifications & Licenses

• Current RN license valid in West Virginia
• BLS (AHA) certification
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Must provide a copy of an unexpired driver’s license with submission
• Any licensing issues must be disclosed at time of submission

Summary

This is a 13-week night shift RN position on a 30-bed overflow unit caring for patients with a variety of acute and chronic conditions. The role requires comfort with a nurse-to-patient ratio up to 1:7, ability to titrate heparin drips, and certifications in BLS and NIHSS. Scheduling includes weekends and holidays as needed, with no call or standby requirements. Floating may be required based on census.
