Job Description
- Provide nursing care to patients with a range of health problems from simple to complex under general supervision.
- Responsible for an assigned group of patients.
- Document patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed treatments.
- Assist physicians with patient examinations and minor diagnostic procedures.
- Monitor physiological data and intervene as necessary.
- Administer medications, intravenous infusions, and blood products.
- Deliver competent patient care.
- Communicate care plans to patients and families during hospitalization and at discharge.
- Inform patients and families about hospital procedures.
- Make referrals regarding patient care needs.
- Delegate tasks to support staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Unit Details
- Medical/Surgical unit; candidates with Operating Room experience will not be accepted.
- Stepdown/Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience is required.
- Acute care surgical floor experience is mandatory.
- Preferred experience includes ENT and/or Transplant patient care.
- Patient population includes pre- and post-surgical inpatients.
- Care for patients with new drains, wounds, tracheostomies, ostomies, nasogastric tubes (NGT), or double lumen hemodialysis catheters (DHT).
- Some patients require stepdown care.
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: 5:1 for surgical patients, 3:1 for stepdown area.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Oklahoma.
- Minimum 1 year of Med Surg nursing experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Experience in an Acute Care setting.
- Stepdown/Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience.
- Experience caring for surgical patients post-operatively.
- Experience caring for patients with new drains, tracheostomies, nasogastric tubes (NGTs), and double lumen hemodialysis catheters (DHTs).
