Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Seattle, Washington
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Night (4 shifts of 12 hours each, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work in a high-risk, high-acuity, and fast-paced Labor & Delivery (L&D) unit with an average daily census of 15 patients and 500-600 deliveries per month.
- Float between postpartum and antepartum units; may also float to sister facilities providing Mother/Baby care.
- Unit includes 4 operating rooms and 31 beds/rooms.
- Patient population includes midwifery clients, private OBs, adult recovery services (substance recovery), and community care clinics.
- Staffing follows AWHONN guidelines.
- Use of EPIC electronic medical records and electronic fetal monitoring is required.
- Functions include circulating during delivery, newborn care (eyes, thighs, assessments), and administration of Vitamin K injections.
- Must be skilled in handling medications such as Heparin, Insulin, and Magnesium Sulfate.
- Work schedule is posted every 6 weeks and designed to meet unit needs, including working every other weekend and holidays as needed.
- Pre-approved time off is considered on a case-by-case basis.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Washington.
- Minimum of 3 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, with experience within the last year.
- Experience working with high-risk patients in Labor and Delivery.
- Current certifications in ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association or Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation, NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program), and NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale).
- Proficient in electronic fetal monitoring (EFM).
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Health and Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, indicating ability to work with or without accommodation.
- Immunizations and screenings required:
- TDAP (Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis) within 10 years or declination accepted.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually.
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer.
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination.
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer.
- Seasonal flu vaccine during flu season or declination accepted.
- COVID-19 vaccination record preferred; declinations allowed with adherence to masking policies.
- 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start.
- Respiratory safety clearance required annually for travel candidates.
- Fit mask testing required for travel candidates, updated annually.
Background and Documentation
- Background check within 90 days of start covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years; must include SSN trace, death master index, nationwide and county checks, sex offender registry, education verification, and motor vehicle record if applicable.
- Education verification required for nursing degree; international education requires transcript/diploma.
- Employment application covering at least the last 5 years of employment with month/year format for dates worked.
- Skills checklist updated annually for applicable units.
- WA State Patrol and WATCH searches required for Washington placements.
Additional Information
- Must provide government-issued photo ID and Social Security card as applicable.
- Passport-style badge photo with neutral background required.
- Must complete annual regulatory and specialty-specific training modules via assigned LMS platform.
- Must comply with float policy acknowledging potential assignment to other nearby facilities.
This position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic, high-volume Labor and Delivery environment with a focus on high-risk maternal and newborn care. Candidates must demonstrate strong clinical skills, relevant experience, and compliance with all licensure, certification, and health requirements.
