Description
Job Opportunity: Respiratory Therapist (RRT Pediatrics)
Location
- Baltimore, Maryland
Employment Type
- Travel/Contract
- Contract Length: 12 weeks
Schedule
- Night shift, 3 shifts per week
- 12-hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Every other weekend required
- Holidays required as scheduled
- Floating required within specialty and related units
- On-call not required
Patient Population & Unit Details
- Mixed age groups: Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), and adult care settings including Emergency Room (ER) and Med/Surg intensive care units
- Level 3 and/or 4 NICU experience required
- Must be competent in caring for all age groups (pediatrics through adults)
- Critical care respiratory therapy with common use of jet high frequency ventilators in NICU (3-4 running at all times)
- Average daily census: 6-7 ventilated patients
- Patient ratio: 1:12
- Number of beds/rooms: 12
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Pediatric Respiratory Therapist license in Maryland
- Minimum 2 years of Pediatric Respiratory Therapist experience, including experience within the last year
- Current certifications: ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), BLS (Basic Life Support), PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support), NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- Experience working with Neonate, Pediatric, and Adult patients
- Experience in Acute Care and Inpatient settings
Required Licenses and Certifications
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) license
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
Special Equipment Experience
- Maquet Servo i ventilator
- Draeger V500 ventilator
- Jet Ventilation and Oscillation
- Nitric Oxide therapy
Uniform
- Navy blue scrubs (pink scrubs for trauma assignments)
- Pediatric department: navy blue scrub pants with child-friendly tops in navy blue
- Undershirts: white short sleeve or navy long sleeve (pink if wearing pink scrubs)
- Business casual attire for certain departments (no jeans, no open-toe shoes, no sleeveless tops, no shorts)
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Negative 9 or 10 panel drug screen within 30 days of start (instant tests not accepted)
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start (specific acceptable mask models)
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (required for units working with children)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol (updated annually)
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: positive titer or vaccination proof
- Hepatitis B: positive titer or declination (series not accepted)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption (required during flu season)
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history, education verification, and state-specific exclusions
- Two supervisory references within 1 year of start
- Employment application/resume completed within 30 days of start
- Verification of previous 5 years of work history
- Facility-specific documents including confidentiality agreements, badge photo, dress code review, and job description acknowledgment must be completed prior to start
Additional Notes
- Floating within specialty and related units is required
- No on-call duties
- Local travelers may be considered at a different rate (details not included)
- Candidate must be able to work in a Level 1 trauma center environment
This position is ideal for Respiratory Therapists with strong pediatric and NICU experience who are comfortable working across all age groups, including adults, in critical care settings during night shifts.
