Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse
Location: Polson, Montana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Position is for a Perioperative Registered Nurse (RN) floating between units based on needs.
- Work schedule: 5 days per week, 8-hour shifts (6:30 AM to 3:00 PM). Possibility of 4 days per week, 10-hour shifts.
- Weekend work required every 3rd or 4th weekend depending on rotation and time off requests.
- On-call required with variable call on weekends and nights (approximately 8 shifts/month).
- Patient ratios vary: 1:1, 1:2, or 1:4 depending on unit.
- Specialties covered include OBGYN, Orthopedics, Gastrointestinal/General Surgery, ENT, Pain, and Dental.
- Areas include all surgery department units: Pre/Post-op, Circulating, PACU, Endoscopy.
- Electronic Medical Record system used: Epic.
- Facility is a Critical Access hospital with 22 staffed beds.
- Scrub color is flexible; OR provides scrubs.
- Parking is free.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Montana.
- Minimum of 1 year of Operating Room (OR) experience, with OR experience within the last year required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Experience & Skills
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
- Must be able to float between different perioperative units.
- Ability to work variable call shifts including weekends and nights.
- Experience with Epic EMR preferred.
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO.
- Fit mask test required for travel candidates (updated annually).
- Immunizations and documentation required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years or declination accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (annual updates required)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer; boosters or declination accepted)
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer (or declination)
- Seasonal flu vaccine during flu season or declination
- COVID vaccination documentation preferred (declinations accepted)
- 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start (instant acceptable).
Background & Compliance
- Background check within 90 days covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; must be updated annually.
- Education verification required for nursing degree.
- Employment application covering at least last 5 years required.
- Minimum of 2 professional references covering 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty/setting.
- Various state-specific background and registry checks may apply depending on placement.
- Completion of annual regulatory and specialty-specific training modules via LMS required.
Additional Information
- Float policy acknowledgment required; may be required to float to other nearby facilities.
- No 48-hour shifts approved.
- No block schedules required.
- Color blind testing may be required on a unit-by-unit basis if requested.
This position offers a dynamic perioperative nursing role in a critical access hospital setting with a variety of surgical specialties and requires flexibility, strong clinical skills, and compliance with comprehensive credentialing and health requirements.
