Description
Registered Nurse – ER Holding (Night Shift)
Location: Largo, Maryland
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Start Date: July 13, 2026
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (19:30 – 08:00)
Schedule: Every other weekend required; holidays as scheduled
Patient Care Setting:
- Fast-paced, high volume border role between Emergency Department (ED), Medical-Surgical/Telemetry (MS/Tele), and Intermediate Care (IMC) units
- Patient ratio approximately 1:6
- Average daily census ranges from 10 to 40 patients
- Wide variety of complex ED admission diagnoses
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Maryland
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification
Job Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care within scope across ED borders, MS/Telemetry, and IMC units
- Floating between these units as needed
- No pre-scheduled on-call shifts required
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Background Checks:
- 7-year criminal history check within 30 days of start, updated annually
- Employment and sanction screenings (EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG) within 30 days of start
- Education verification for highest level completed
- Maryland State Exclusions List check within 30 days of start
- Health Requirements:
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Negative 9-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start (instant tests not accepted)
- Fit test within 1 year of start
- Immunizations or positive titers for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (positive titer or declination; series not accepted)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine if working with pediatric populations (not required for ER RN unless pediatric ER)
- TB screening: Negative QGOLD or TSPOT within 1 year, or 2-step PPD as applicable, updated annually
- Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 6 – Mar 31)
- COVID vaccine not required for this location, but documentation collected for tracking
- Competency Exams:
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam within 1 year of start (score ≥80%)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam within 1 year of start (score ≥80%)
- Age-specific competency exam (score ≥80%)
- Color blindness testing required
- References and History:
- Two supervisory references within 1 year of start
- Employment application/resume completed within 30 days of start
- Verification of previous 5 years of employment history
Additional Facility Requirements
- Security ID badge application must be completed within 72 hours of signing contract
- Latex allergy questionnaire must be completed by all candidates
- Passport-style photo with solid white or beige background required for badge
- Confidentiality agreement and job description acknowledgment required prior to start
- Portfolio Epic training test-out form may be applicable depending on Epic experience
- Dress code review prior to start
