Registered Nurse (ICU) - Chandler, Arizona

Job Summary

Seeking an experienced ICU Registered Nurse with a minimum of 3 full years of recent ICU experience (including at least 2 years in ICU). Candidates must hold an active Arizona nursing license or compact license and current certifications in BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS. TNCC certification is preferred.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years recent ICU experience (neuro or cardiovascular experience required/preferred)
  • Active Arizona RN license or compact license
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (TNCC preferred)
  • Must pass a dysrhythmia exam within 24-48 hours prior to acceptance (maximum 2 attempts)
  • Pass/fail simulation lab on Day 1 of orientation
  • Ability to titrate drips including Propofol, fentanyl, versed, precedex, morphine, dilaudid, ketamine, rocuronium, levophed, vasopressin, cardene, labetalol, dopamine, dobutamine, heparin, and insulin
  • Charge nurse responsibilities (do not take patients)
  • Must interpret own cardiac monitor strips (no telemetry/monitor techs on unit)

Experience & Skills

  • Experience with Level 1 trauma center patients including trauma, neuro, and cardiovascular cases
  • Comfortable with surgical ICU, trauma, neuro-surgery, and medical cardiac ICU patients
  • Familiarity with common ICU diagnoses: sepsis, COVID, ARDS, DKA, vascular surgeries, post-op cardiac surgeries (CABG, valves, TAVR), ECMO, IABP, Impella, Tandem heart
  • Experience preferred in similar size ICU units
  • Ability to float between multiple ICU units including surgical ICU, medical cardiac ICU, and overflow ICU
  • Flexibility to work additional weekends if unit is busy

Work Environment & Unit Details

  • ICU units with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:1 or 1:2
  • No nurse aides on unit except for sitters and health unit secretary
  • 24/7 in-house hospitalist or intensivist coverage
  • 24/7 respiratory therapy coverage with equipment including Dreager, Hamilton, Puritan Bennett 840 ventilators, V60 BiPAP, Airvo
  • GE telemetry monitors; RNs interpret their own strips
  • Surgical ICU beds: 32; Medical Cardiac ICU beds: 36 + 12 overflow beds

Scheduling & Shifts

  • Night shift, 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week
  • Self-scheduling with manager oversight to balance unit needs
  • Weekend requirement: 3 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule (night shift weekends are Friday-Saturday; day shift weekends are Saturday-Sunday)
  • May have 1 holiday off per assignment
  • No additional call or standby shifts required, but may be low censused up to 3 times per contract

Orientation & Training

  • Unit-specific orientation lasting 1-2 days
  • Skills validation for trauma, neuro, and specialty devices as needed

Additional Information

  • Must be willing to float to telemetry unit with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:3 or 1:4 as needed
  • Scrub color: Navy
  • Radius restriction: Candidates must live within 50 miles and may not have worked full-time, part-time, or PRN at any affiliated facilities within the past year
  • First-time travelers are welcome if they meet experience requirements
  • Flexibility and adaptability are essential due to floating and variable weekend coverage

This position is ideal for ICU nurses with strong critical care skills, flexibility, and a desire to work in a high-acuity Level 1 trauma center environment.
