Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Surgical Tech

Location: Elmira, New York
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (13 weeks)
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM (with occasional rotations to 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)


Job Description

  • Provide surgical tech support in labor and delivery.
  • Assist with orientation of new LPN/tech staff transitioning into permanent roles.
  • Perform stocking of rooms and units.
  • Conduct housekeeping duties for rooms and operating rooms after cases, especially when housekeeping staff are unavailable during night shifts.
  • Willingness to float to other hospital areas when census is low.
  • On-call availability is optional.

Required Qualifications

Licensure & Certification

  • Certified Surgical Technologist with a minimum of 2 years of experience.
  • Recent Certified Surgical Technologist experience within the last year.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA).

Health & Safety Requirements

  • COVID-19 vaccine proof or agency declination (optional).
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR): Positive IgG titer or two vaccine doses required; if negative or equivocal, vaccination must be completed within 30 days of start.
  • Varicella: Positive IgG titer or two vaccine doses required; if negative or equivocal, vaccination must be completed within 30 days of start.
  • Tdap vaccine within the last 10 years or agency-specific declination form.
  • Hepatitis B: Positive antibody titer, 3 vaccine series, or agency-specific declination form required.
  • Tuberculosis (TB) testing: Must have one of the following within required timeframes:
    • Two skin PPD tests (one within 12 months, one within 3 months), or
    • One Quantiferon/Spot test within 12 months.
    • For past positive TB tests, chest X-ray within 12 months may be required.
  • Annual fit test for respiratory protection completed within the last 12 months.
  • Physical exam within the past 12 months confirming ability to work without restrictions, including height, weight, vitals, and vision screening.
  • Drug screen: 9+ panel excluding marijuana (per New York state regulations).

Documentation & Onboarding Requirements

  • Completed skills checklist specific to the unit, updated annually.
  • Core competency exam with a minimum score of 80%, updated annually.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license or state ID (not expired).
  • Color headshot photo (professional, no filters or sunglasses).
  • Background check within 30 days of start, including:
    • Social Security Number address trace for all counties lived in the last 7 years.
    • County and national criminal searches.
    • FACIS 3 check.
  • Employment verification of most recent employer.
  • Two professional references:
    • One supervisor reference from the last 12 months.
    • One supervisor or peer reference from the last 3 years.
  • Signed and dated job description.
  • Completion of agency-specific forms and acknowledgments including code of conduct, sexual harassment acknowledgement, self-study packet and quiz, parking registration, and confirmation of assignment.
  • Centralus Epic Questionnaire and TB Questionnaire forms (agency-specific).
  • Resume accounting for all employment and gaps over the last 7 years, including education history.

Additional Notes

  • Orientation start date is July 5.
  • Must be willing to float and assist with various duties as needed.
  • On-call shifts are possible but not mandatory.
