Surgical Tech - Nebraska, Omaha
Job Overview
- Position: Surgical Tech (Operating Room Technician)
- Location: Omaha, Nebraska
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Days (8- or 12-hour shifts available)
- Typical Shift Hours: 06:30 AM – 03:00 PM or 06:30 AM – 07:00 PM
- Hours per Week: Approximately 36 hours
- Call Requirements:
- Weeknight call: 1 call shift per week (4 hours after regular shift, typically 7:00 PM – 11:00 PM, rotating)
- Weekend call: Approximately every 5 weeks, from Friday evening to Sunday evening, alternating call teams every 12 hours
- No floating outside of the OR
- Scrubs: Green scrubs provided by the hospital
Case Types & Experience
- Must have experience in Neuro and Ortho cases (significant volume)
- Robotics experience required (e.g., DaVinci Robot)
- Common surgical cases include:
- General Surgery: bowel, cholecystectomy, appendectomy, gastrectomy, hernia repairs, laparoscopic surgeries, organ procurements, thyroid, tracheostomies, I&Ds
- Gynecology: C-section, hysterectomy (abdominal/vaginal), laser procedures, salpingo-oophorectomy, tubal ligations
- GU/Cystoscopy: circumcision, cystoscopy, hypospadias repair, lithotripsy, nephrectomy, orchiectomy, penile implant, prostate surgeries, TURP/TURB
- Orthopedics: scopes, external fixation, closed reduction, total knees/hips, ORIF (shoulder, clavicle, humerus, radius/ulna, hand/fingers, pelvis, femur, tibia/fibula, ankle, foot)
- Neurosurgery: ACDF, burr holes, craniotomies, tumor resections, laminectomies, shunts, EVD
- Plastics: trauma plastics (mandible/maxilla, orbits), facial fractures, skin grafts, flaps
- Eye: enucleation, vitrectomy, globe rupture (mostly traumatic injuries)
- ENT: ethmoidectomy, sinus surgery, laryngectomy, tonsil/adenoid removal, myringotomy, mastoidectomy, tympanoplasty, stapedectomy, nasal polypectomy, laryngoscopy
- Thoracic: hiatal hernia, lobectomy, thoracotomy, lung wedge resection
- Endoscopy: bronchoscopy, EGD, colonoscopy
- Pediatric cases may be encountered in emergency situations
Required Qualifications
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA) required
- Must have a valid driver’s license at time of application (used to verify candidate is within 50-mile radius)
- Must not be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with certain large healthcare systems within the radius
- Must meet minimum competency scores ("3's in all areas") in multiple surgical specialties including Ortho, Neuro, GYN, Eyes, ENT, Robotics, etc.
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply will result in contract termination
Additional Information
- Radius Rule: Candidates must live within 50 miles of the facility
- Return to Office (RTO) required within 7 days or less from contract start; no additional RTO extensions allowed
- Department has 12 operating suites
- Use of advanced surgical equipment including DaVinci Robot (x3), Stealth, O-arm, and holmium lasers
- Flexibility and availability for call are key to this role
This position is ideal for Surgical Techs with strong neuro, ortho, and robotics experience seeking a 13-week contract with day shifts and call responsibilities in a busy OR environment.
