Description
Medical ICU RN Travel Assignment
Location: Fort Wayne, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Medical ICU Registered Nurse for a travel assignment in a mixed acuity unit primarily caring for progressive care patients with some ICU patients. The unit includes Medical ICU (24 beds) and Progressive Care (12 beds). The nurse will float among ICU, PCU, and Medsurg units, maintaining a maximum 1:3 nurse-to-patient ratio.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 1.5 years ICU experience (2 years preferred)
- Valid Indiana RN license
- ACLS (AHA only) certification
- BLS (AHA only) certification
- Travel experience preferred
- Experience in Level 1 or Level 2 facilities preferred
Work Schedule
- Three 12-hour shifts per week
- Evening shift (3pm–3am)
- Traditional weekday plus weekend rotation
- Will not work alone
Unit and Patient Care Details
- Mixed acuity unit: mainly progressive care patients (1:3 ratio), less frequent ICU patients (1:2 ratio)
- Care for ventilated patients, initiate and titrate IV drips (vasopressors, sedation, paralytics)
- Assist with intubations and line placements
- Monitor critically ill patients with diagnoses including sepsis, respiratory failure, renal failure, myocardial infarction, pulmonary embolism, and pneumonia
- Equipment used: Phillips heart monitors, Epic EMR, Pyxis, EKG machine, dopplers
Orientation and Training
- 8 hours of non-billable orientation
- Onboarding includes workforce development training, policy review, and Epic access
- One day of unit-specific onboarding
Additional Information
- Nurse dress code: Caribbean blue scrubs; jackets must be black, white, or Caribbean blue; undershirts must be black or white, short or long sleeves
- Facility accepts local travelers within 50 miles with a rate adjustment (not included here)
- Client may cancel assignment up to 24 hours in advance
Notes for Candidates
- Must be flexible, team-oriented, and able to critically think and reason in a fast-paced critical care environment
- Position requires floating to multiple units while maintaining safe nurse-to-patient ratios
- Candidates should disclose any required time off during the assignment in advance
