ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Stockbridge, Georgia
Contract Length: 14 weeks


Job Summary

  • Patient Population: Adults to Geriatrics
  • Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
  • Unit Type: Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
  • Typical Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:2-3 (may occasionally take a 3rd patient)
  • Average Daily Census: 19 patients in a 24-room unit
  • Unit Systems: Pyxis medication system, Epic electronic health record, SBAR communication method
  • Scrub Color: Navy Blue
  • Floating: May be required to float within the facility and within scope of practice
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Holiday Requirement: Must work major holidays if they fall during assignment (expect to work 1-2 holidays depending on number during contract)
  • Return to Office (RTO) Requirement: Maximum 7 days

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Georgia
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience
  • ICU experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification

Clinical Skills and Patient Diagnoses

  • Experience with general ICU diagnoses including but not limited to:
    • ARDS (Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome)
    • Sepsis
    • Stroke
    • STEMI (ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction)
    • DKA (Diabetic Ketoacidosis)
    • Post-operative complications
    • Cardiogenic shock
    • Gastrointestinal bleeding (GIB)
    • COPD exacerbation
    • Encephalopathy
    • Liver failure
    • Drug overdose
    • End-stage renal disease (ESRD) on continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT)

Orientation and Compliance

  • Number of Non-Billable Orientation (NBO) hours depends on contract length (e.g., 8 hours for 8-week assignment)
  • Full compliance with all onboarding requirements is mandatory to start on time; delays in compliance may result in a 2-week start delay due to bi-weekly orientation scheduling

Background and Health Requirements

  • Background Check: Must be completed within 30 days prior to start, including national and county criminal searches, sex offender registry, and education verification
  • Education Verification: Degree related to nursing must be verified; can be pending at start with proof of processing (due within 30 days post start)
  • Physical Exam: Required within 12 months prior to start
  • Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days prior to start (includes amphetamines, benzodiazepines, cocaine, opiates, methadone, PCP, propoxyphene, THC)
  • Immunizations and Titers:
    • TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSpot) within 12 months or negative chest x-ray if previously positive
    • TB Questionnaire updated annually
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer with boosters if needed
    • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer with boosters if needed
    • Hepatitis B surface antibody titer or signed declination
    • Flu vaccine or declination required during flu season (Nov 1 – Mar 31)
    • TDAP (Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis) highly recommended but not required

Documentation and Compliance

  • Must review and sign Code of Conduct and Dress/Professional Appearance Policy prior to start
  • References: Two clinical references required by agency (not required by client)
  • Skills Checklist: Must be current within 12 months
  • Work History Verification: Verification of most recent employer required; can be pending at start with proof of processing

  • No travel pairs allowed (cannot be paired with another traveler on a different unit)
