Job Opportunity: IMC Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Springfield, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:45 AM – 7:15 PM)
Hours per Week: 36
Job Description
- Unit: Intermediate Care (IMC) / Stepdown / Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- Patient Ratios/Daily Caseload: Not specified
- Floating: May float within scope as needed
- Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
- Block Scheduling: Possible, discuss with manager
- Locals Accepted: Yes, no radius restrictions
- On-call: Not required
- Guaranteed Hours: Client may cancel up to 36 hours per 13-week assignment without pay; cancellations beyond that will be billed
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required (no first-timers accepted)
- Required Work Setting Experience: Telemetry, Neuro Stepdown, PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown units
- Cardiac Monitoring & Emergency Response:
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Telemetry monitoring on unit
- Use of Rapid Response Teams
- Cardiovascular Care:
- Post cardiac angiogram, MI, cardiac catheterization, and surgery care
- Sheath removal and TR Band management
- Gastrointestinal Care: Feeding tube care and management
- Renal Care: Pre/post hemodialysis management, renal failure care
- IV Therapy/Phlebotomy:
- Accessing ports, arterial line management, blood product administration
- Central line, PICC line, peripheral line care/management
- Phlebotomy and starting IVs
- Medication Management:
- Heparin protocols
- Management and titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
- PCA and procedural sedation administration
- Neurological/Psychiatric Care:
- Craniotomy, CVA, pre/post neurosurgery, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury
- Orthopedics: Ortho trauma, peripheral nerve block catheters, total joint replacements
- Plastic Surgery: Skin grafts, surgical drains
- Respiratory Care:
- Ventilator care, chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac)
- External CPAP/BIPAP, high flow nasal cannula (HFNC)
- ABG interpretation, nasal cannula, oxygen masks, portable oxygen tanks
- Non-invasive airway management, tracheostomy care
- Professional Skills: Isolation precautions, wound care including wound vac
- Preferred Experience: Cerner electronic health record, teaching hospital, Level I trauma center experience
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Valid RN license in Illinois
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- NIHSS certification
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Illinois
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
- Telemetry experience
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- NIHSS certification
Health & Background Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, confirming good physical and mental health, ability to perform job functions without restrictions
- Fit mask test required (specific mask types accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- TB questionnaire updated annually
- Immunizations or proof of immunity required for:
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
- Hepatitis B (vaccine series, positive titer, or exemption)
- Varicella (2 vaccines, positive titer, or exemption)
- 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (negative dilute results require retest)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually by November 30
- Background checks including:
- Criminal, sex offender, SSN trace, counties, states, FACIS Level 3
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days prior to start
- Illinois-specific searches (Department of Corrections, Most Wanted, Murderer and Violent Offender Against Youth Registry) within 30 days prior to start
- Fingerprinting and Illinois Healthcare Registry Worker results required for clinical candidates without an IL license; prints must be done in Illinois 3 business days prior to start
Additional Requirements
- Two professional references required
- Skills checklist required for clinical candidates
- Badge photo required within one week of signing contract (color photo, mid-shoulders up, plain background)
- Completion of orientation safety manual acknowledgment and computer-based learning modules before or on first day of orientation
- Parking permit required (no cost)

Notes
- Prior travel experience is not required
- Candidates ideally should have no more than 5 days of return-to-office restrictions
- Candidates must be able to work every other weekend
- No on-call shifts required
