Description

Registered Nurse - ICU (Travel/Contract)

Location: York, Pennsylvania
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit Description

  • Open Heart Intensive Care Unit (OHICU) is a 10-bed ICU caring for critically ill/postoperative cardiothoracic, cardiovascular, and general surgery patients aged 18 and older.
  • Care includes invasive hemodynamic monitoring, ventilator management, arrhythmia monitoring/intervention, advanced cardiac life support, pacemaker/ICD management, IABP, CRRT, ventricular assist device (VAD), and ECMO.
  • May care for COVID-19 patients.
  • Floating to all ICU and med-surg floors as needed.
  • Tobacco and fragrance-free facility.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Pennsylvania.
  • Minimum 2 years of Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU) experience, including experience within the last year.
  • Intensive Care Unit (ICU) nursing experience.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Current ACLS certification.
  • Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system.

Work Schedule & Requirements

  • Night shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM).
  • Maximum return-to-office (RTO) time: 7 days.
  • Weekends: Every other weekend (EOW).
  • Holidays: As needed.
  • No on-call requirements.

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check required within 30 days of start; updated annually.
  • Pennsylvania Child Abuse (Childline) Search required 3 business days prior to start; renewed every 5 years.
  • Pennsylvania FBI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start; results must be on file within 45 days of assignment start.
  • Pennsylvania State Police PATCH search required within 1 year of start; must be finalized prior to start.
  • Employment application and 2 professional references within 3 years required.
  • Education verification of highest degree/diploma/transcripts required.
  • Skills checklist required annually.
  • Negative 9-panel drug test within 1 year of start (specific to agency requirements).
  • Physical exam required within 90 days of start, signed by MD, DO, PA, or NPT.
  • Fit mask testing required within 1 year of start and updated annually; specific approved mask types must be used.
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required with proof or exemption forms:
    • Hepatitis B (positive titer or full vaccine series)
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (vaccines or positive titers)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
    • Seasonal Flu vaccine or valid medical/religious exemption during flu season
    • COVID-19 vaccine or valid exemption/declination
  • Negative TB test (QGold or TSpot) within 90 days of start; PPD not accepted. For positive results, negative chest X-ray within 1 year and annual TB questionnaire required.

Certifications & Competencies

  • ACLS (AHA or ARC provider, RQI, or instructor with provider card).
  • BLS (AHA or ARC provider, RQI, or instructor with provider card).
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (pass/fail, must pass first attempt).
  • Acknowledgement of pass/fail testing required within 48 hours of signed contract.
  • NURSYS verification for RN license.
  • Additional certifications (PALS, NRP, TNCC, NIH Stroke Certification) as applicable per unit/job description.

Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Clear, passport-style photo for badge (no masks, sunglasses, hats; religious headwear allowed).
  • Completion and signing of facility-specific documents including:
    • Medical Statement Non-Employee Ability to Work form (within 90 days of start)
    • Commitment to Health & Wellness
    • Code of Conduct
    • Confidentiality Agreement
    • Non-Employee Affidavit
  • Completion of Learning Management System (LMS) modules on PC/laptop prior to start (not on cell phones).
  • New hire orientation required by end of first day.

Additional Notes

  • Candidate will undergo a clinical pre-screen and manager interview before final approval.
  • Must be aware of and prepared for the mandatory EKG competency exam pass requirement.
  • Facility enforces tobacco and fragrance-free policy; candidates must be notified prior to submission.
