Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – Observation Unit

Location: Vero Beach, Florida
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 26 weeks (6 months)
Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:45 AM – 7:15 PM)
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week


Job Description

  • Work in a Clinical Decision Unit specializing in Medical-Surgical/Telemetry (MS/Tele) on a PCU (Progressive Care Unit).
  • Must have experience with vasoactive drips.
  • Floating required within scope to three nearby hospitals (within 20 miles).
  • Block scheduling is not accommodated.
  • Locals accepted at the same rate.
  • Facility is smoke-free; all travelers must be nicotine-free (verified by negative 10-panel drug screen plus nicotine test).
  • Time-sensitive online training modules must be completed prior to start.
  • Charting system: EPIC.
  • Facility type: Short Term Acute Care, Teaching hospital.
  • Total staffed beds: 332.
  • Scrub color: White.
  • Free parking available.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Florida
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 1.5 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with PCU experience within the last year
  • Telemetry experience
  • Acute Care experience
  • Experience with vasoactive drips
  • Current BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Current ACLS certification
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Required Compliance & Documentation

  • Government-issued photo ID must be carried during hours of service.
  • Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG required and must be current.
  • Florida AHCA Level II fingerprint clearance required prior to start.
  • Physical exam within 6 months of start.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; annual updates required.
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required:
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 vaccines or positive titer).
    • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination).
    • Varicella (2 vaccines, titer, or history of chickenpox).
    • Seasonal flu vaccine required during flu season (medical/religious exemptions allowed).
    • COVID-19 vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required.
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 1 year of start (no Florida Medical Marijuana card accepted).
  • Two professional references within 2 years required.
  • Employment application and skills checklist must be completed.
  • Pass/Fail testing on EKG and medication administered during orientation (2 attempts allowed per test).
  • Online onboarding modules must be completed by due date using a computer and Google Chrome; cannot be completed on a phone.
  • Smoke-free facility: nicotine testing required.

  • First-time travel nurses are accepted.
  • All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted upfront; late requests are unlikely to be approved.
  • Candidates must prioritize completion of required modules and documentation promptly.
  • Facility issues radiation badges to applicable staff.
  • Candidates with prior travel experience are not explicitly required but floating to multiple hospitals is mandatory.
