Registered Nurse (Med Surg Acute Care) - Travel Assignment

Location: Macomb, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours

Unit Overview

• 16-bed Med/Surg unit with a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio
• Diverse patient population including medical and surgical cases
• Support staff includes 1 CNA
• Equipment available: high-flow oxygen, Vapotherm; BiPAP and more complex respiratory support managed by ICU
• High patient turnover with frequent admissions and discharges

Key Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate nursing care for patients with conditions such as COPD, pneumonia, cellulitis, congestive heart failure, colon resections, and orthopedic surgeries (total hips and knees)
• Monitor patients using Nihon Kohden telemetry and interpret telemetry strips independently
• Collaborate with a small team including clinical care coordinator, charge nurse, and weekend house supervisor
• Assist with outpatient infusions as needed (preferred experience)
• Maintain thorough and accurate charting to support quality care

Schedule & Work Environment

• Shifts: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM (day shift info provided, but this job is nights)
• Weekend commitment: every other or every third weekend
• No mandatory holiday shifts; volunteers appreciated
• No call or standby requirements; volunteer opportunities available
• Floating opportunities to assist as safety sitter or in other supportive roles
• Schedules posted 6 weeks in advance, accommodating traveler preferences when possible
• Dress code: pewter scrub tops with black shoes and pants; colored tops allowed if layered with pewter outer garment

Required Qualifications

• Current Illinois RN license
• 3 to 5 years of nursing experience, preferably in a rural hospital setting
• BLS (AHA) certification required
• PALS (AHA) certification preferred
• Strong assessment and critical thinking skills
• Experience with telemetry monitoring is essential

Orientation

• Comprehensive orientation during the first week including HR processes, infection control training, equipment familiarization, and hands-on preceptor support

• Emphasis on quality care with lower patient ratios and thorough documentation
