Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse
Location: Wilmington, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Primarily caring for medical-surgical patients with oncology history.
- Patient diagnoses include AKI, Sepsis, Cancer, Septic shock, Pain, Overdose, Malignant Neoplasms, ARF, Encephalopathy, FTT, Diabetic foot ulcers, Heparin drips.
- Administration of chemotherapy/biotherapy via IV, PO, or injection required.
- Unit daily census approximately 42 patients; patient-to-nurse ratio typically 1:6, may increase with census.
- Night shift schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:45 to 7:15).
- Floating required to similar units and alternate inpatient care locations such as inpatient holding in the ED.
- Call required if called off on a prescheduled shift.
- Every other weekend required.
- Contract staff expected to participate in Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team and may be required to report during catastrophic events or disasters.
- Attendance at monthly staff meetings required.
- Unit systems include PYXIS (medication), EPIC (documentation), and SBAR (communication).
- Orientation: 24 hours (2 shifts).
- Scrubs: Navy blue and white.
- Must pass EKG competency testing prior to start.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of medical-surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience in inpatient settings
- Experience in charge nurse roles
- Blood product administration
- Central line blood draws
- PICC line management
- Chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac)
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
