Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – Medical/Surgical Telemetry Unit

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Shift Details

  • Night shift
  • 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
  • Approximately 36 hours per week
  • Weekend coverage every 2nd to 3rd weekend

Unit Description

  • Medical/Surgical Telemetry unit with 10 private rooms and 1 observation bed
  • Equipped to monitor telemetry for 4 patients with stable dysrhythmias
  • Patient population includes adults and geriatrics with chronic and acute medical conditions such as cancer, diabetes, renal disease, COPD, pneumonia, cellulitis, CVA, and post-surgical care (orthopedic, genitourinary, gastrointestinal, and general surgery)
  • Excludes major neurosurgical and cardiovascular surgical patients

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse in Medical/Surgical and Telemetry settings
  • Preferred previous charge nurse experience
  • Accepts first-time travel nurses

Float Requirements

  • Must be able to float to 2 other Medical/Surgical units

Required Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – American Heart Association (AHA) current certification required
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – AHA current certification required

Required Licensure

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Illinois

Patient Age Group

  • Adults and geriatrics only (no pediatric patients)

Uniform

  • Navy blue scrubs required

Additional Requirements and Documentation

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
  • Emergency contact form prior to start
  • Background checks including:
    • Social Security trace, county, nationwide, sex offender, and employment verification for the last 7 years
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks annually
    • Illinois Adult Abuse Registry Search (can pend at start)
  • Education verification (transcript or diploma acceptable)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask testing within 12 months (specific mask types required)
  • Immunizations and titers as applicable:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) proof or declination as per birth year guidelines
    • Hepatitis B titer, declination, or vaccine series
    • Varicella titer, vaccine, or history of chickenpox
  • Drug screening (9 panel) within 1 year
  • COVID-19 exemptions allowed (medical and religious)
  • Two professional references within 2 years
  • Resume required
  • 7 years of work history verification (attestations allowed after 3 attempts)
  • Annual skills checklist and competency exams including medication/pharmacology test (minimum 80% score or Angoff score)

Prior Travel Experience

  • First-time travelers accepted (no prior travel experience required)

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 2 years of Medical/Surgical and Telemetry nursing experience, including telemetry experience within the last year
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Experience in charge nurse roles
