Description

Registered Nurse – Stepdown / Immediate Care Unit

Location: Morgantown, West Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Schedule: Weekdays and some weekends; weekend block schedules considered (Fri-Sun or Sat-Mon)
Patient Ratio: Typically 1:4, flex to 1:5 in emergencies
Acuity: Mix of Stepdown, Progressive Care, and Telemetry patients


Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in West Virginia
  • Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Experience in Medical-Surgical and Telemetry nursing
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification
  • CHEMO certification
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Proficient in telemetry monitoring and cardiac strip interpretation

Job Details

  • EMR System: Cerner
  • Uniform: Scrubs not provided; burgundy and/or white scrubs required
  • Holiday Time Off: Limit requests to no more than 2 of the 4 major holidays

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID must be carried during work hours
  • Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG required and must be current
  • Proof of E-Verify or attestation required
  • Physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands, updated annually
  • Immunizations and health screenings required or preferred:
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within required timeframes)
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years, preferred)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella titers or vaccinations
    • Hepatitis B titer or vaccination series or declination
    • Varicella titer or vaccination
    • Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption (mandatory during flu season)
    • COVID vaccine or declination
  • Drug screening: 10-panel within 30 days of start and updated annually
  • Stroke education: 8 CEU hours annually, including NIH Stroke Certification
  • Color blindness testing and competency exams as applicable
  • Completion of facility-specific learning modules and Cerner training prior to orientation
  • ReadySet (RS) health assessment surveys must be completed before start date
  • Submission packet must include:
    • Candidate profile/work history
    • Specialty-specific skills checklist (updated annually)
    • Minimum 2 clinical or charge nurse references from past 2 years
    • RN license verification (recently pulled)
    • Copies of all required certifications

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must be able to start ASAP
  • Possible contract extension available
  • Candidates cannot start with any certification pending; all must be on file prior to start
  • Badge photo and other facility-specific documents required before clearance
  • Workers compensation documentation preferred but not mandatory

This position offers an opportunity to work in a varied acuity stepdown unit with a focus on telemetry and progressive care patients, requiring strong clinical skills and experience in cardiac monitoring.
