Description

Registered Nurse – SICU (Travel/Contract)

Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Accepts local travelers at a rate differential
  • Patient population includes Neurosurgery, Vascular surgery, Thoracic surgery, Orthopedic interventions, Liver Transplants, Level 1 Trauma, Motor Vehicle Accidents, Falls, Gun Shot Wounds, and Open Abdomens
  • Floating required when no need on the unit
  • Every 3rd weekend required
  • Charting required using EPIC electronic health record system

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Pennsylvania
  • Minimum 2 years of Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) experience, with at least 1 year within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Unexpired government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
  • Background check including 7-year criminal history, PA PATCH search, and other state/federal checks as required
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks upon hire
  • Education verification or official transcript (diploma not accepted)
  • Pennsylvania Department of Human Services fingerprinting results within 12 months prior to start
  • Pennsylvania Child Abuse Search within 12 months prior to start
  • Physical exam within 2 months of start date
  • Fit mask test (3M 1870+ model) within 12 months prior to start; must be completed before start (no on-site testing)
  • Current Tdap vaccine or titer acceptable
  • Negative TB test (Qgold or TSPOT) within 90 days of start; chest X-ray if positive test
  • Annual TB questionnaire
  • Immunizations or titers for Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, and Varicella as per facility policy
  • 10-panel drug screen within 60 days prior to start
  • Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – Apr 1)
  • COVID-19 vaccine no longer required prior to start; medical/religious exemptions accepted with masking requirements
  • Professional references: 2 within last 2 years
  • Skills checklist updated annually for applicable unit
  • Work history verification as applicable

Orientation & Testing

  • Completion of assigned educational modules prior to orientation (approx. 6 hours)
  • Pass/fail basic dysrhythmia exam during orientation; only one attempt allowed
  • Signed acknowledgment of Joint Commission Safety Manual and pass/fail testing requirements

Additional Notes

  • Travelers may be required to float to other units if no need on SICU
  • Facility uses EPIC for charting
  • Night shift schedule with 36 hours per week (3 shifts of 12 hours)
  • No prior travel experience required; first-time travelers accepted
