Registered Nurse (Cardiac Cath Lab) – Illinois, Peoria
Job Overview
- Specialty: Cardiac Cath Lab RN
- Location: Peoria, Illinois (Local placements accepted within 50-mile radius)
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Days
- Hours: 4 x 10-hour shifts per week (40 hours/week)
- Department: Cath Lab with 6 suites/labs
- Average Cases per Day: 4-20 cases (1:1 ratio)
- EMR/Equipment: EPIC, GE and Philips monitors, McKesson
Patient Population and Procedures
- Common Diagnoses: STEMI, NSTEMI, Heart Failure, congenital heart defects
- Procedures: TAVR, MitraClip, Peripheral interventions
- Note: Cath Lab is separate from Interventional Radiology (IR) and Electrophysiology (EP)
Work Environment and Team
- Cardiologists on call 24/7, year-round
- Charge nurse available as resource and coordinator; nurse on-call acts as charge nurse
- Cath Lab Techs: Registered Radiologic Technologists (RTRs)
- Call teams: 4-person for call cases; 3-person (1 RN + 2 RTRs) for regular cases
- Scrubs provided
Scheduling and Call Requirements
- Shift length: 9 hours (typically 4 shifts per week)
- Call shifts: 6-8 per month (includes primary and backup call)
- Weekend call: Every 6-7 weekends, starting Friday 5:30 pm to Monday 6:00 am; includes backup circulator role for emergent cases (24-hour shifts, about once per month)
- Holiday call: Includes Easter backup call shift
- Floating: No floating required; experience in IR is a plus but not mandatory
- Orientation: 2-3 shifts specific to the unit
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Illinois
- Minimum 1 year of Cardiac Cath Lab experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- ACLS certification
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
Additional Notes
- Orientation hours: 12 non-billable hours
- Call off policy: Equivalent of 12 hours off every 13 weeks without penalty
- Local placement rate applies to clinicians living within 50 miles of the facility
