Registered Nurse – Cardiac Cath Lab

Location: Peoria, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Seeking an experienced RN for the Cardiac Cath Lab. The role involves working in a high-acuity environment with a variety of cardiac cases including STEMI, NSTEMI, heart failure, congenital conditions, TAVR, MitraClip, and peripheral interventions.

Work Schedule

• Day shifts, typically 4 shifts per week, 10 hours each (40 hours/week)
• Shift length: 4 to 9 hours, with occasional extended hours for emergent cases
• Call requirements: 6-8 call shifts per month (primary and backup)
• Weekend call: Every 6-7 weekends, 24-hour shifts as backup circulator for emergent cases (about once per month)
• Holiday call: Includes Easter backup call shift

Unit Details

• 6 Cath Lab suites/labs
• Average cases per day: 4-20 (1:1 nurse to case ratio)
• Cath Lab is separate from IR and EP departments
• Call teams: 4-person; regular cases: 3-person (1 RN + 2 Cath Lab Techs)
• Cardiologists on call 24/7 year-round
• Charge nurse available as resource and coordinator; nurse on call acts as charge nurse when applicable
• Scrubs provided

Required Certifications & Skills

• Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA)
• Ability to read cardiac strips and titrate drips occasionally
• Experience with EPIC EMR system and monitoring equipment (GE and Philips monitors, McKesson)

Orientation & Training

• Unit-specific orientation: 2-3 shifts
• Non-billable orientation hours: 12 hours

Additional Information

• Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius
• Drug-free workplace: negative drug screen required for all panels
• No floating required; experience in IR is a plus but not mandatory
• Call off policy: Equivalent of 12 hours off every 13 weeks with no penalty or pay deduction

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Illinois
• Minimum 2 years of Cardiac Cath Lab experience, with at least some experience within the last year
• Current ACLS certification
• Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

• MitraClip procedures
• Peripheral vascular interventions
