Description
Registered Nurse Supervisor (RN SUP)
Location: Fairview, Pennsylvania
Contract Length: 5 weeks
Facility & Unit Information
- Type of Facility: Long-Term Care / Skilled Nursing Facility (LTC/SNF)
- Total Beds: 300 beds across 6 units
- Unit A: 47 beds
- Unit C: 50 beds (Covid unit, currently closed)
- Unit G: 59 beds
- Unit H: 40-bed secure dementia unit
- Unit J: 59 beds
- Unit K: 45 beds
- Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system: PCC
- Patient Population: Residents 18+ years, including LTC, skilled, rehab, dementia, and hospice care (2 dedicated hospice rooms)
- Respiratory Therapy: No RT staff on-site; patients may have CPAP, BiPAP, O2, nebulizers, inhalers, tracheostomies (no ventilators)
- Pharmacy: On-site Monday-Friday during business hours; emergency drug closet access after hours
- Interdisciplinary Team: Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech-Language Pathology, Case Managers, Social Workers, Dieticians
Job Description & Responsibilities
- Serve as building supervisor during evenings, nights, and weekends
- Oversee floor nurses (RNs, LPNs) and CNAs; not assigned direct resident care tasks
- Monitor resident condition changes and issues
- Schedule outside services (labs, portable x-rays, etc.)
- Contact physicians or nurse practitioners for resident needs/issues after hours via chain of command
- Perform specialized nursing tasks only RNs can do: central line care, chest tube care/management, IV starts, admission orders, fall assessments
- Participate in care plan meetings primarily for short-term stay residents
Shift & Scheduling
- Shifts: 8.25 hours with 30-minute unpaid lunch
- Scheduled Hours: Approximately 38 hours per week
- Shifts Available: Evening and Night
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend, with option to work more
- Holiday Requirement: Yes, scheduled 2 weeks in advance, work if holiday falls on scheduled day
- Call/Standby: None; work scheduled shifts only
- Floating: None; position covers entire building
- Dress Code: Clean, professional scrubs of any color except camouflage
Staffing & Ratios
- RN Supervisor is outside the staffing grid and does not provide direct resident care
- Nurse Managers assigned Monday-Friday, 3 managers covering 2 units each; 1 manager on weekends covering all units
- Each unit staffed with 2 nurses (1 Charge Nurse, 1 Med/Treatment Nurse), sometimes 3 if staffing allows
- Floor nurses include both RNs and LPNs
- Night staffing includes 1 RN Supervisor (as staffing allows) and 1 floor nurse per unit
Required Qualifications
- Current RN license
- BLS Certification required
- Prior experience with PCC EMR system
- Experience measuring wounds (nurses measure only; wound staging done by NP)
- Ability to manage IV medications including Lasix, Bumex, and antibiotics
Orientation & Training
- Unit/Department specific orientation: 3 days
- Includes weekend doubles and one 8-hour weekday shift
Additional Notes
- Health items must be collected within 48 hours of hire
- Must use facility timeclock system; badge replacement fee applies if lost
- No telemetry monitors on units; RN’s do not read cardiac strips
