Description
ICU Registered Nurse (RN) Travel Assignment
Location: Kearney, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
Seeking an experienced ICU RN for a travel assignment starting ASAP in a Central Nebraska hospital. The ICU unit has 10 beds with an average daily census of 5+, caring for adult and pediatric patients (under 8 years old) requiring ICU-level care. Patient cases include open heart surgery, CHF, COPD, overdoses, sepsis, CVAs with TPA, DKA, and some neurological cases (no ICP monitoring yet). The unit participates in a TeleStroke program.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years ICU experience, including cardiac experience
- Experience with:
- Balloon pumps (IABP)
- Impella device
- Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)
- Day 2/Day 3 post-op CABG patients
- Current active and good standing Nebraska RN license or multi-state compact license
- Certifications:
- BLS (AHA or ARC)
- ACLS (AHA or ARC)
- PALS (AHA or ARC) — Peds experience highly preferred
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- EPIC electronic medical record experience
Schedule & Work Expectations
- Shifts: 12-hour shifts, either 0600-1830 or 1800-0630
- Hours per week: Approximately 36
- Weekend shifts: Typically 2 weekends per month (Saturday and Sunday), may be more depending on unit needs
- Floating required to Progressive Care Unit (PCU) and Medical-Surgical units as needed; travelers float first
- May require up to 2 extra shifts every 6 weeks
- No self-scheduling or blocked scheduling; schedule based on unit needs
- Holidays: 1 major and 1 minor every other week, with floating expected
- Punctuality and attendance are critical; termination possible after 3 call-outs
Unit Details
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:1 or 1:2 (lower acuity patients)
- Scrub colors allowed: Navy blue, black, or charcoal grey
- Team environment with strong collaboration
Additional Notes
- Orientation occurs bi-weekly
- Patient population includes adults and pediatric patients under 8 years old requiring ICU care; pediatric patients over 8 years old typically admitted to PCU or Med Surg unless ICU care is needed
This position does not require prior travel experience.
