Job Opportunity: Registered Respiratory Therapist - NICU (Travel/Contract)
Location
- Charleston, South Carolina
Position Details
- Specialty: Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics (Pediatrics focus)
- Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On-call: Not required
- Floating: May float within scope depending on experience; no floating to sister facilities
- Contract Length: 13 weeks

- Total staffed beds: 865

Required Qualifications
- Certified Respiratory Therapist with NICU experience (minimum 2 years)
- NICU experience within the last year
- Experience working with Pediatric, Neonate, and Infant patients
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA or ARC)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification (AHA)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification (AHA/AAP)
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Copy of Driver’s License and Social Security Card
- Completed and accurate I-9 form with E-Verify attestation
- Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, including multiple specific searches (SSN trace, state and national criminal, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, international searches if applicable)
- Education verification or diploma/transcripts as placeholder
- South Carolina Medicaid Excluded Providers search
- Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
- Complete employment application/resume including all PTO, contract assignments, agency names, and no unaccounted gaps
- Verification of last 3 clinical employers (or fewer if applicable)
Certifications & Competencies
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required
- Color blindness testing required prior to start
- Competency exam required (Pediatric OR competency preferred if applicable)
- Annual physical exam attesting ability to meet physical demands
- Fit test for N95 mask (O&M Halyard FLUIDSHIELD or 3M Aura 1870+) within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
- Drug screening: 10-panel urine drug screen within 90 days prior to start (no instant tests)
- Annual TB questionnaire and negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days)
- Immunizations or proof of immunity required for:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years or declination form)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (positive titer or vaccines with boosters if low/negative titer)
- Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Aug 1 - Mar 31)
- COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
Additional Requirements
- Clear, passport-style badge photo with solid light background, business casual or job-appropriate attire, no hats or sunglasses
- Completion of facility-specific orientation modules (approx. 2 hours) prior to start; must be done on a computer/laptop, not a phone
- Radius rule: 60 miles; local candidates considered case-by-case
- Guaranteed hours: Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks
- Block scheduling may be accommodated with prior approval (not guaranteed)
- Hurricane season (June-November) may require emergency response team participation

- Radiation badge not required for this position
- Prior travel experience is not required
- All required certifications must be valid beyond 30 days from start date; expiring certifications must be renewed or have a course scheduled before start
- All required documents and certifications must be uploaded and verified prior to assignment start
This position offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity pediatric respiratory care environment within a prestigious teaching hospital setting. Candidates should be prepared for night shifts and meet all licensure and certification requirements specific to South Carolina.
