Job Opportunity: X-Ray Tech (Bone Density Technologist)
Location: Portland, Oregon
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Position for a Bone Density Technologist specializing in DEXA exams (not a DEXA Technician).
- Current and proficient bone density exam experience is a hard stop requirement.
- No floating between units.
- No on-call, weekend, or block schedule requirements.
- Expected patient ratio: 1:1.
- No X-ray duties required.
Work Schedule
- Shift: Day shift, 4 days per week, 10 hours per day (7:00 AM – 5:00 PM).
- Total hours per week: 40.
Facility Type
- Short Term Acute Care facility with 418 staffed beds.
- Charting system: Epic.
- Parking: No fee.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Radiology Technologist license in Oregon.
- Minimum of 1 year of Radiology Technologist experience, with experience within the last year.
- Current and proficient Bone Density Technologist experience (DEXA exams).
- Active ARRT certification.
- Certification through Oregon Board of Medical Imaging (OBMI).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- X-Ray Technician experience.
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation certification.
- ACLS, PALS, NRP, Chemotherapy, EFM, IV Certification, MAB, NIH Stroke, CPI, and other certifications as applicable per clinical track or unit requirements (verify with credentialing).
- Certification requirements may vary; verify with credentialing team if unsure.
Background and Compliance Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
- Social Security Card (as applicable).
- E-Verify attestation required.
- Background check within 90 days covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years; must be updated annually.
- Additional state-specific background checks as applicable.
- Drug screening: 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start (instant acceptable).
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, indicating ability to work with or without accommodation.
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- TDAP (within 10 years or declination accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (annual updates required)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer/declination
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer/declination
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season
- COVID vaccination record preferred (declinations accepted)
- Respiratory safety clearance required annually for respirator use (travel only).
- Fit mask testing required for travel candidates (annual update).
References and Employment History
- Minimum of 2 references covering at least 1 year of employment within the last 3 years in a comparable specialty/setting.
- Employment application covering at least the last 5 years required.
- Work history verification may be required if reference exceptions are requested.
Competencies and Skills
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as applicable.
- Competency exams required as per specialty/unit.
- Color blindness testing may be required on a unit basis.
- Skills checklist must be updated annually for applicable units.
Additional Requirements
- Passport-style badge photo with neutral background required.
- Completion of annual regulatory and specialty-specific training modules via LMS (Workramp).
- Float policy acknowledgment may be required (no floating expected for this position).
