Respiratory Therapist (RT) - West Virginia
Location
- City: Martinsburg, West Virginia
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Shift Details
- Night shifts
- 12 hours per shift
- Approximately 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend required (Fri/Sat/Sun nights and Sat/Sun days)
- Every other holiday required
- No on-call duties
Unit and Patient Population
- Level III NICU, ICU, pediatric floor, and adult patients
- Patient types: neonates, pediatrics, and adults
- Assignments vary and may include multiple floors or ICU with several ventilated patients
Required Certifications and Licenses
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) verification required
- Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) accepted only if license held prior to July 1, 2022
- ACLS (AHA)
- BLS (AHA)
- PALS (AHA)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) required starting 12/15/2025
Required Experience and Skills
- Must be able to intubate adults independently
- Prior Level 2-3 NICU experience including ventilator management required
- Pediatric floor care and adult patient experience preferred; candidates with older NICU experience and no pediatric experience will be considered
- Experience with mechanical ventilation and non-invasive ventilation (NIV)
- Familiarity with multiple ventilator brands including Servo U, Hamilton G5, Hamilton T1 (transport vent), Phillips Respironics V60 (BiPAP), and high flow systems (AirVo & MaxTech)
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assess patients and plan treatments based on physician orders and evaluations
- Establish treatment goals and methods
- Set up and administer treatments such as oxygen therapy, humidity therapy, airway management, resuscitation, mechanical ventilation, postural drainage, chest physiotherapy, BiPAP, CPAP, nebulizers, inhalers, and arterial blood gases (ABGs)
- Perform EKGs during off-hours (5pm to 7am) and weekends (not in ER)
- No pulmonary function testing (PFT) duties required
Orientation and Scheduling
- Floor-specific orientation with 3 to 12-hour shifts
- Individual assignments per shift (ER, ICU, 2nd floor, etc.)
- Schedule approved and balanced by RT manager, typically released 4 weeks in advance
Work Environment
- Team-oriented culture emphasizing integrity, teamwork, quality, and patient-centered care
- Lead RT available for each shift
- Hospitalist or intensivist present in-house
- 24/7 pharmacy support
Additional Notes
- Driver’s license address must be outside a 50-mile radius from the facility
- Previous permanent candidates must have been gone for 2 years before reapplying
- Previous travelers must have been gone for 2 years after completing a full year on travel assignment at this facility
- Travel teams must be submitted together
- Only two candidates submitted per opening; submissions may be held if position is full
- Any license issues must be disclosed at time of submission
