Description
Job Opportunity: CVICU Registered Nurse
Location: Florence, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 12 weeks
Position Details
- Unit: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)
- Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
- Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 2 patients
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend, including holiday rotation
- On-call: Not required
- Floating: May be required to float within scope to similar units or sister facilities, with agency staff floating first
- Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks
- Local Travel Radius: 60 miles (local travelers not accepted)
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in South Carolina
- Minimum 1 year of CVICU experience within the last year
- One completed travel assignment
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Neuro experience required
- ACLS certification
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Additional Requirements & Compliance
- Background Checks:
- Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years
- Includes SSN trace, statewide and national criminal checks, sex offender registry, and FACIS 3
- International background checks required if applicable
- Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- Health Requirements:
- Physical exam updated annually, confirming ability to meet job demands
- Immunizations or titers required for:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years or declination form)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters if low titer)
- Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
- Varicella (positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters if low titer)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days of start (T-spot or Quantiferon Gold accepted; 2-step PPD not accepted)
- Annual TB questionnaire completion
- Respirator medical clearance annually (RespSafety questionnaire)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Aug 1 – Mar 31)
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but highly preferred; vaccination records or declination form must be uploaded
- References & History:
- Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
- Performance evaluation dated within 12 months of start
- Complete employment application/resume
- Competency Exams: Medication/pharmacology competency and other required competency exams must be completed
Orientation & Facility Specifics
- Orientation:
- Completion of assigned online modules (approx. 4 hours) prior to start is mandatory; failure to complete results in being sent home
- First Day Instructions (FDI) and OurDay platform access provided after clearance
- Photo for Badge: Passport-style photo required (frontal view, shoulders up, solid light background)
- Acknowledgments & Agreements: Must sign assignment acknowledgment, code of conduct, confidentiality agreements, HR policy manual review, systems user agreement, and user access request prior to start
- Parking: Free parking available
- Uniform: Royal blue scrubs
Important Notes
- Hurricane Season: From June through November, all staff may be assigned to emergency response teams; candidates should avoid confirming new or extension assignments during this period if this is a concern.
- Local Candidates: Not accepted for this position.
- Block Scheduling: May be requested but not guaranteed.
This position is ideal for experienced CVICU nurses with cardiac and neuro skills who are comfortable working night shifts in a fast-paced acute care environment using Epic EHR. Prior travel experience is required (first-time travelers not accepted).
