Description
Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse
Location: Johnson City, Tennessee
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Schedule
- Day shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:30 AM – 7:00 PM)
- Rotation options: 3 twelve-hour shifts with every other weekend off, or 7 days on/7 days off (12-hour shifts)
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Tennessee
- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience working with Pediatric patients
- Trauma experience
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Certifications & Training
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – AHA Instructor or Provider or RQI accepted (verify unit requirements)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – AHA Instructor or Provider or RQI accepted (verify unit requirements)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – required for ER; can be pending at start but highly preferred
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) – highly preferred for ER candidates, not required
- Annual Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
- Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam as applicable
- Competency Exam required
Compliance & Background Checks
- Background check within 30 days of start covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years; updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
- Education verification required
- Tennessee Adult Abuse Registry check required if licensed or working in Tennessee
- Primary source verification of state license (NURSYS verification required)
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start (not required annually)
- Drug screening: Standard 9-panel drug test within 14 days of start (instant test acceptable as placeholder)
- Immunizations/vaccinations or documented immunity required for:
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (MMR titer or vaccine documentation)
- Varicella (titer or vaccine documentation)
- Hepatitis B (series, titer, or declination)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (vaccine or declination)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol
- Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Sept 29 – Mar 31) with facility-specific documentation
- Respirator fit testing completed onsite; must comply with CDC facial hair guidelines for respirator use
Orientation & Additional Information
- General orientation begins on Sundays with online computer-based learning (CBLs)
- 16 hours of non-billable orientation required
- Hospital may cancel or call off one shift biweekly without penalty due to census changes
- Additional overtime shifts may be flexed based on hospital census without penalty
- Contract nurses expected to participate in nursing student support and clinical education alongside clinical care

- Photo for badge (must meet specific standards)
- Staff information form (including recent Epic experience if applicable)
- Department-specific uniform guidelines and dress code review
- Contaminated sharps and body fluid exposure statement (with Hep C titer if applicable)
- Smoking and tobacco use policy review
- Influenza policy and exemption forms if applicable
- Respirator medical evaluation questionnaire and clearance form
This position is at a Level 1 Trauma Center and requires a commitment to high standards of clinical practice and compliance.
