Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – Mother-Baby / Couplet Care / Post Partum
Location: Frederick, Maryland
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36
Unit & Patient Population
- Family Center: 27-bed unit specializing in couplet care, newborn assessment, and antepartum patient services.
- Responsibilities include care for postpartum, newborn, and antepartum patients.
- Floating to Labor and Delivery to support LDRP (Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum) needs.
- Work excludes triage and circulating roles.
Required Experience & Skills
- Valid RN license in Maryland.
- Minimum 3 years of Maternal-Newborn nursing experience, with experience within the last year.
- One completed travel nursing assignment.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Certified in Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM).
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Certifications & Licenses
- Active Maryland or Compact RN license in hand (no exceptions).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Current Certified Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C-EFM) certification required at time of submission.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required for Labor & Delivery, NICU, and Antepartum.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification as required.
- Pass/Fail competency testing including dysrhythmia/EKG exams and medication/pharmacology exams required.
- Completion of facility-specific Net Learning Modules and orientation exams with a minimum score of 80%.
Scheduling & Work Conditions
- Rotating holidays and weekends required.
- Block scheduling is not accommodated.
- No on-call responsibilities.
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID must be carried during work hours.
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history, SS trace, sex offender registry, and education verification.
- Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (instant/rapid acceptable).
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tdap (no declination allowed)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 vaccines or positive titers with boosters if low)
- Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer with boosters if low)
- Hepatitis B series or positive titer (no declinations accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start; 2-step PPD or equivalent required.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – Apr 30).
Additional Requirements
- Proof of two clinical references within the last 12 months.
- Completion of employment application/resume.
- Physical exam attesting ability to meet physical demands of the position.
- Compliance with facility dress code and attendance/punctuality policies.
- Facility-specific photo (badge photo) required; no nose rings allowed in photo.
- Fit mask testing required prior to start (specific mask types mandated).
Summary
This travel RN position offers the opportunity to work in a specialized mother-baby unit with a focus on antepartum, postpartum, and newborn care, including support in Labor and Delivery. Candidates must have strong acute care experience, fetal monitoring certification, and prior travel nursing experience. The role requires night shifts with rotating weekends and holidays, and a comprehensive set of certifications, health screenings, and compliance documentation.
