Description

Registered Nurse – Stepdown Unit (Travel/Contract)

Location: Memphis, Tennessee
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Days (3 shifts of 12 hours, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work in Stepdown/Med Surg Overflow with Cardiovascular experience
  • Team nursing ratio approximately 1:12
  • Shift schedule may be 36 or 48 hours per week; schedule details finalized during interview
  • On-call and weekend work required as needed
  • No weekend block scheduling, but weekend blocks may be considered
  • Local candidates within 100-mile radius not accepted
  • First-time travelers not accepted; prior travel experience required
  • Level I Trauma experience required
  • Experience in a large hospital setting required

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse license in Tennessee
  • Minimum of 1 year of recent Progressive Care Unit (PCU) or Stepdown Unit experience
  • At least one completed travel nursing assignment
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience working with Level I Trauma patients
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Current Tennessee RN license or multistate license compliant with Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) guidelines; pending licenses not accepted
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification (AHA or ARC) required for Stepdown/Telemetry units
  • Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet job demands
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; annual TB questionnaire if positive
  • Up-to-date immunizations including:
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (proof of 2 vaccines or positive titer with boosters if needed)
    • Varicella (proof of 2 vaccines or positive titer with boosters if needed)
    • Hepatitis B series or positive titer or signed declination
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – Apr 30)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start
  • Background checks within 60 days including statewide, county, federal, and education verification
  • Social Security card and 2 forms of government-issued ID required
  • Two recent professional references required

Additional Requirements

  • Photo for badge must meet strict guidelines (passport-style, no hats, no glasses glare, recent within 6 months)
  • Fit test for 3M N-95 masks within 1 year, with a clear pass (no facial hair allowed if it interferes)
  • Completion of facility-specific questionnaires and submission packets prior to start
  • Compliance with dress code: Navy blue scrubs for RNs; no prints or embroidery on scrubs
  • Must sign confidentiality acknowledgment prior to start

Notes

  • All requests for time off (RTO) must be submitted with the application and cannot be approved after offer acceptance
  • Candidates must not be submitted to multiple job IDs/facilities simultaneously
  • Large acute care hospital with Level I Trauma designation
  • No acceptance of candidates with pending licenses or first-time travel nurses

This position is ideal for experienced travel RNs with prior travel assignments, trauma experience, and comfort working in a fast-paced, large hospital stepdown unit.
