Description

Registered Nurse - Med-Surg Telemetry Unit (Night Shift)

Location: Jacksonville, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Includes weekends and holidays
  • No on-call required
  • Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 6 patients
  • Patient population includes Cardiac, Diabetes, CHF, COPD, Renal, General Surgery, and Orthopedics
  • May be required to float to similar or lower acuity units
  • May take Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) patients based on census
  • Must be proficient with Insulin, Heparin, and Lasik drips
  • Work on a 42-bed Med-Surg Telemetry unit

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
  • Minimum 1 year of Med-Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification
  • Proficiency with Insulin drips
  • Proficiency with Heparin drips
  • Proficiency with Lasik drips

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
  • Background check: 7-year criminal history, education verification, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG checks
  • Diploma or transcript from highest level of education required
  • NURSYS license verification within 30 days of start
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (instant drug screens not accepted as final)
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tdap vaccine within 10 years (titer not accepted)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titers)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines, positive titer, or physician-documented history)
    • Hepatitis B titer (vaccine series not accepted in lieu of titer)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (QGold/Tspot or 2-step PPD)
  • Flu vaccine required during flu season (Oct 1 - Feb 28) or approved medical/religious exemption
  • COVID vaccination proof if vaccinated; unvaccinated candidates must complete declination form
  • Facility-specific forms and attestations including confidentiality, code of conduct, certification acknowledgements, and user access forms must be completed and signed
  • Must complete LMS modules during orientation
  • Onsite NCI (Nonviolent Crisis Intervention) training required for ER RNs (not applicable here but noted for facility)

Additional Information

  • No local candidates accepted within a 50-mile radius
  • Candidates must include Return to Office (RTO) in submittal to be honored at time of offer
  • Unit team includes RNs, LPNs, PCTs, CNAs, and unit secretaries
  • Orientation includes safety manual acknowledgement (OSHA, HIPAA, Joint Commission annual training)
  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam required as applicable
  • Float to like or lower acuity units as needed

This position offers experience across a diverse patient population on a busy Med-Surg Telemetry unit with a supportive team and structured night shift schedule.
