Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Edmonds, Washington
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Day (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Provide nursing care in Labor and Delivery, Postpartum, OB Triage, Antepartum, and Normal Newborn units.
- Float to other units as needed.
- Patient diagnoses include Labor and Delivery, Postpartum, OB Triage, Antepartum, and Normal Newborn care.
- Perform special procedures such as vaginal and cesarean deliveries, circulating in the OR, starting adult IVs, administering blood and blood products, managing drains, epidural and PCA pumps, and administering insulin and magnesium sulfate.
- Work with special equipment related to high-risk antepartum, high-risk labor and delivery, LDRP (Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum), OB-GYN, and pre/post-operative care.
- Provide couplet care (mother and newborn).
- Staff-to-patient ratio ranges from 1:1 to 1:3.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Washington.
- Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience, including experience within the last year.
- Experience in Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum (LDRP).
- Postpartum nursing experience.
- Maternal-Newborn nursing experience.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Certifications:
- AWHONN Intermediate
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association or Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation
- Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
- Social Security Card (as applicable)
- Background check within 90 days covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years; must be updated annually.
- Education verification and transcript/diploma (required if internationally educated).
- NURSYS license verification for RNs.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, confirming ability to work.
- Immunizations and health screenings:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years or declination accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination (required during flu season)
- COVID-19 vaccination record preferred (declinations accepted)
- Drug screening: 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start (instant acceptable).
- Respiratory safety clearance (RespSafety) required annually for travel candidates.
- Photo for badge (passport style with neutral background).
- Completion of annual regulatory and specialty-specific training modules via LMS (Workramp).
- References: Minimum 2 references covering 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty/setting within the last 3 years.
- Employment application covering at least the last 5 years.
Additional Notes
- Must be separated from any previous permanent employment with the health system for at least 3 months to qualify for this travel position.
- Floating to other Providence facilities within a reasonable distance may be required.
- Background checks include multiple components such as SSN trace, sex offender registry, education verification, and state-specific searches.
- WA State Patrol search required within 90 days of start for Washington placements.
- Candidates with international education must provide additional documentation such as CES report or transcripts.
- Annual completion of Workramp modules is required, with some exemptions for returning candidates with less than a year gap.
This position offers an opportunity to work in a specialized Labor and Delivery environment with a focus on comprehensive maternal and newborn care in a travel nurse capacity.
