Description
Registered Nurse (ICU)
Location
- Quincy, Illinois
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Unit Details
- ICU unit with 16 beds (includes MICU and some SICU)
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:2
- 24/7 intensivist and hospitalist coverage (MD and NP)
- Respiratory therapist assigned 24/7 with full respiratory equipment (vents, CPAP, BiPAP, etc.)
- Telemetry monitor tech present; RNs interpret cardiac strips (Draeger monitors)
Schedule
- 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (day shifts starting at 7 AM)
- Every other weekend required (Saturday and Sunday)
- Holiday rotation with core staff
- No call or standby requirements
- Floating is infrequent; may float to PCU or CVICU as help-all
Orientation
- Unit-specific orientation: 1 shift (12-14 hours) on day of hire including computer-based modules and general orientation
Patient Population and Common Procedures
- Patients with critical conditions including trauma (Level I or II trauma center experience required)
- Common diagnoses: sepsis, DKA, spinal injuries, neuro surgery, COVID, post heart catheterization, mass transfusions, organ procurement (no transplants)
- Procedures: CRRT (Prismaflex), rotaprone positioning, TTM (Arctic Sun), tracheostomies, chest tube insertion, bronchoscopy, arterial line insertion, bedside procedures, paralytics, 24-hour EEG monitoring, external ventricular drain (EVD), lumbar puncture drain, train of four monitoring, ECMO (occasionally)
- Experience preferred with pulling sheaths and CRRT
- RNs required to titrate drips including Precedex, pressors, antiarrhythmics, sedation, and common ICU drips
Required Certifications
- Active Illinois RN license
- ACLS and BLS required
- NIHSS and PALS preferred
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of critical care experience
- Experience in Level I or Level II trauma center with 300+ bed hospital preferred
Additional Information
- Charge nurse or house supervisor may take smaller patient assignments to assist
- Nurse aides available on unit
- Dress code: black scrubs
