Description
Registered Nurse – Surgical Acute (Night Shift)
Location: Hilo, Hawaii
Employment Type: Contract (13 weeks)
Job Summary
- Provide nursing care in a 34-bed adult surgical unit.
- Perform standard RPN III duties with a focus on preoperative and postoperative care for abdominal surgeries (e.g., laparoscopic cholecystectomy, appendectomy, mastectomy, thyroidectomy), chest tubes, and drains.
- Utilize equipment including vital signs machines, IV & PCA pumps, electronic medical records (WOWS/EMR), and Pyxis medication systems.
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1 RN to 5-6 patients.
- Floating to other units/departments may be required.
- Dress code: Regular nursing uniforms.
Schedule
- Three 12-hour night shifts per week.
- Must be able to work weekends and flexible shifts.
- No on-call requirement.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Hawaii.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Minimum of 2 years of medical-surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
- Preoperative and postoperative nursing experience.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
Additional Information
- Must arrive the Thursday before the start date for an employee health appointment on Friday.
- Surgical unit operates on a 12-hour shift schedule.
