Description
Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Cardiac Telemetry
Location: Salisbury, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (12-hour shifts, 18:45 - 07:15)
Schedule: Weekends only (Friday, Saturday & Sunday)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Unit & Patient Care Details
- Fast-paced cardiac and stroke unit with high patient turnover (78-90 patients per week).
- Patient diagnoses include stable pre/post care for pacemaker implantation, implanted cardioverter/defibrillators, cardiac catheterization, post uncomplicated interventional peripheral vascular/cardiac interventions without sheaths.
- Care for patients with unstable angina, low-risk chest pain, congestive heart failure (CHF), dysrhythmias, new cerebrovascular accident (CVA) and transient ischemic attack (TIA) patients.
- Manage multiple cardiac drips such as Cardizem, Dopamine, Amiodarone.
- Unit currently houses COVID-positive patients requiring opti-flow and BIPAP (only chronic use; no new BIPAP).
- Telemetry monitoring and pulse oximetry required; use of high flow oxygen (stable), non-rebreather mask (only if palliative).
- Target nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:5-6; nurses must be comfortable managing 6 patients during surges.
- Float and on-call requirements apply; call frequency depends on patient census.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in North Carolina
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience on a challenging, very busy Med Surg/Telemetry unit with similar ratios and acuity
- Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year
- Proficient in IV starts
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Orientation & Scheduling
- Orientation: 36 hours, must be available daily during the first week for hospital orientation.
- Scheduling: Self-scheduling with leadership oversight; no block scheduling allowed.
- RTO (Request Time Off) after booking is not allowed and cannot be worked out onsite; excessive call-offs or RTO may lead to cancellation.
- Weekend schedule only: Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
- No block scheduling permitted.
Uniform & Appearance
- Navy blue or white scrubs or a mixture of both allowed.
- Jackets must match scrubs in material and color (no fleece).
- No crocs with holes allowed.
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background checks including local, federal, national criminal databases, DOJ sex offender search, and education verification.
- Drug screening within 30 days of start (10-panel, negative result required).
- Physical exam within 1 year of start; if past positive TB, physical within 30 days required.
- Fit testing for N95 mask or completion of PAPR training (not required for non-clinical).
- Immunizations and titers required: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (with facility-specific declination if applicable).
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray per protocol.
- Annual flu vaccination or approved exemption with mask requirement.
- Completion of facility-specific education modules including medication safety, confidentiality agreement, tobacco-free campus acknowledgement, and annual compliance training.
- Must complete Non-Novant Health Worker Orientation checklist (approx. 8-10 hours for acute care).
- Must upload photo for badge creation (passport style, white background, business attire, no head coverings except glasses).
- Must complete Corp ID and I-Learn account setup prior to start.
Additional Notes
- This is a weekend night shift role with a 3-day workweek.
- Call and float responsibilities are required.
- The unit is high acuity and fast paced; nurses must be comfortable with rapid patient turnover and multiple complex cardiac patients.
- COVID-positive patients are currently cared for on the unit; appropriate PPE and protocols must be followed.
- No block scheduling or RTO flexibility after booking.
This position is ideal for experienced cardiac telemetry nurses seeking a challenging travel assignment with weekend night shifts in a busy cardiac/stroke unit.
