Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – Emergency Room

Shift Details
- 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
- 36 hours per week (3 shifts per week)
- Weekend coverage every third weekend (as needed and agreed upon)

- Emergency Room (ER)
- Combined Adult and Pediatric Emergency Department
- All standard ER procedures
- Patient diagnoses: All types related to emergency department presentations
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – current American Heart Association (AHA) certification
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – current AHA certification
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – current AHA certification
Required Experience
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a Registered Nurse in Emergency Room or related specialty
- First-time travel nurses are accepted (no prior travel experience required)
Required Skills & Competencies
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Blood product administration
- Central line care and management
- Phlebotomy
- Starting IVs
- Continuous IV sedation
- IV vasopressors administration
- Procedural sedation administration
- Care for CVA (stroke), orthopedic trauma, head injury, near drowning cases
- Interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs)
- Isolation precautions
Medication and Documentation Systems
- Medication system: Pyxis
- Documentation system: MediTech
- Communication system: Vocera
Dress Code
- Navy blue scrubs
Required Licenses & Verifications
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
- Minimum 1 year of Emergency Department (ED) experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Current ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Current PALS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Blood product administration
- Central line care and management
- Phlebotomy skills
- Continuous intravenous sedation administration
- Intravenous vasopressor administration
- Procedural sedation administration
- Care for cerebrovascular accident (CVA) patients
- Ortho-trauma care
- Head injury care
- Acknowledgement of pass/fail testing
- Pass/fail testing on EKG and medication
Required Background and Compliance Checks
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
- Background check within 1 year covering last 7 years of residence/employment/education
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks (annual)
- Education verification (transcript or diploma acceptable)
- Illinois Adult Abuse Registry Search (required, can pend at start)
- 7 years of work history verification (attestations allowed after 3 attempts)
- 2 professional references within 2 years
- Resume required
Required Health Documents and Immunizations
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask testing within 12 months (specific mask types required)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination within 10 years (declination allowed with form)
- Negative TB test (PPD, Quantiferon Gold, or T-spot) within 1 year or negative chest X-ray if prior positive
- TB questionnaire if chest X-ray positive
- Proof of immunity or vaccination for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (titer, declination, or vaccine series)
- Varicella (titer, vaccination, or history of chickenpox)
- 9-panel drug screen within 1 year (instant drug screen acceptable)
- Flu vaccination strongly recommended but not required
- COVID-19 medical and religious exemptions allowed with proper documentation
Competency Testing
- Medication and pharmacology competency exam (minimum 80% or meet Angoff score)
- Pass/fail testing on medication and glucose meter during orientation (two attempts allowed)
Additional Requirements
- Acknowledgement of pass/fail testing required prior to start
- Facility-specific RN job description acknowledgment required prior to start
- Skills checklist required annually
Other Notes
- Maximum 5 days return to orientation (RTO) allowed before start
- Weekend shifts scheduled as needed and agreed upon with facility
This position offers an opportunity for Registered Nurses with at least one year of ER experience to work a 13-week travel contract on night shifts in a busy emergency department serving all age groups. First-time travelers are welcome. Compliance with all licensure, certification, background, and health requirements is mandatory.
