Description
Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Battle Creek, Michigan
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Provide nursing care in a 15-bed LDRP unit with 3 triage bays and 2 operating rooms.
- Responsibilities include antepartum, labor and delivery, OR circulating, scrub nurse duties, newborn nurse at delivery, and couplet care.
- Perform lab draws and newborn hearing screens using ALGO 5 Machine.
- Must work in all areas of LDRP (Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum).
- Follow AWHONN guidelines for patient ratios.
- Weekend requirement: work every other weekend.
- Float responsibilities include serving as a sitter within the unit and potentially floating to a nearby facility (approximately 27 miles away) when census allows.
- No call required.
- Electronic Medical Record system used: EPIC.
- Scrubs will be provided.
- Holiday coverage required; flexibility needed for any requested time off during holidays.
- No time off (RTO) allowed during the first two weeks of the contract.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Michigan
- Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Current certifications:
- ACLS (American Heart Association)
- BLS (American Heart Association)
- PALS (American Heart Association)
- NRP
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM)
- AWHONN Intermediate or NCC C-EFM
- Experience and skills in:
- Circulating in the OR
- Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM) Triage
- OB/GYN nursing
- Maternal-Newborn nursing
- Must be trained or willing to be trained to complete newborn infant hearing screens
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
- E-Verify completion as per contract requirements.
- Proof of name change if applicable (legal documentation).
- Criminal background check within 45 days of start, including lifetime search from age 18, with multiple components (SSN trace, national/statewide searches, education verification, MVR, etc.).
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks.
- Michigan LARA fingerprinting required within 45 days of start.
- Michigan Central Registry Clearance required (wet signature only) for L&D placements.
- Education verification (copy of highest degree or diploma).
- Physical exam within 1 year of start date.
- Drug testing: 10-panel including Marijuana/THC within 30 days of start.
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (proof of at least one prior Tdap vaccine)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 30 days of start
- Annual TB questionnaire
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
- Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
- Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/spiritual exemption (must be submitted within 48 hours of contract signing if applicable)
- Fit mask testing required on-site (Honeywell DC365N95HC) for applicable roles.
- Completion of medication/pharmacology competency exam and specialty competency exam within 1 year prior to assignment start (passing score ≥ 80%).
- Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment required.
- One professional reference from a supervisor or manager required.
- Complete employment application/resume with full 7 years work history, no gaps.
Additional Notes
- Candidate must be flexible with holiday scheduling due to staffing demands.
- Floating to a nearby facility may be required based on census.
- No call responsibilities.
- Scrubs provided by the facility.
This position is ideal for experienced Labor and Delivery nurses with required certifications and skills, who are comfortable working night shifts and meeting the outlined compliance and documentation standards.
