Description
Registered Nurse – Stepdown Unit (Travel/Contract)
Location: Memphis, Tennessee
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts of 12 hours (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM), 36 hours per week
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work in Stepdown/Med Surg Overflow with Cardiovascular experience
- Team nursing ratio approximately 1:12
- Shift schedule may be 36 or 48 hours; subject to change during interview
- On-call and weekend work required as needed
- Weekend block scheduling generally not accommodated, but weekend blocks may be considered
- Local candidates within 100-mile radius are not accepted
- First-time travel nurses are not accepted
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Tennessee
- Minimum 2 years of Stepdown nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIH Stroke Scale Certification (NIHSS)
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or ARC only
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA or ARC only
- NIH Stroke Scale Certification (NIHSS) – required and must be renewed annually
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit assignment, but these are core for this role
Background and Compliance Requirements
- Background check within 60 days of start, including statewide, county, federal, and education verification
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated annually
- Sex offender search and Tennessee Adult Abuse Registry check required
- Two recent professional references required
- Skills checklist and internal evaluation required if employed with agency for one year or more
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, attesting ability to meet job demands
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start
- Fit test for 3M N-95 masks within 1 year of start (must pass without limitations)
- Immunizations required with proof:
- Measles (Rubeola) – 2 vaccines or positive antibody titer with boosters if needed
- Mumps – 2 vaccines or positive antibody titer with boosters if needed
- Rubella – 2 vaccines or positive antibody titer with boosters if needed
- Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive antibody titer with boosters if needed
- Hepatitis B – 3 shot series, positive titer, or signed declination
- TB testing: True 2-step PPD, Q-Gold, or T-spot within 1 year; if positive, chest X-ray within 2 years plus annual TB questionnaire
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – Apr 30); exemptions require mask-wearing in patient areas and may delay start date
Facility and Dress Code Notes
- Scrub colors: Navy blue for RNs; no prints or embroidered scrubs allowed
- Photo badge required prior to start with strict guidelines (passport-style photo, no hats/head coverings except religious, no glasses glare, no piercings visible)
- Confidentiality acknowledgment must be signed before start
- EPIC questionnaire required for RNs; opportunity to test out of EPIC training if experienced
Additional Information
- All Return to Office (RTO) restrictions must be included at time of submission; no changes after offer
- Candidates must not be submitted to multiple job IDs/facilities simultaneously
- No pending licenses accepted; must be fully compliant with licensing requirements before start
This position is ideal for experienced travel RNs with Level I Trauma and large hospital experience seeking a day shift role in a high-acuity Stepdown unit.
