Description
Registered Nurse (RN) - PACU
Location: West Burlington, Iowa
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (13 weeks)
Shift: 08:00 AM – 08:30 PM
Job Description
- Provide post-anesthesia nursing care during the immediate post-anesthesia period (Phase I), transitioning patients to Phase II care, inpatient care, or intensive care as needed.
- Ensure safe transition from a fully anesthetized state to less acute care.
- On-call responsibilities with a 30-minute response time.
- On-call approximately 1-2 weekdays depending on weekend on-call schedule.
- Weekend call rotation typically every 4th or 5th weekend.
- Must self-study telemetry strips upon acceptance; a basic dysrhythmia test will be administered during the first week and must be passed to work in the Emergency Department.
- Previous experience with EPIC in a similar unit within the last 12 months is required.
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Registered Nurse (RN) license (Primary source verification required within 30 days of start).
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Valid RN license in Iowa
- Minimum 2 years of Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
- Valid Driver’s License
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Drug screen (9-panel, excluding THC) within 30 days of start.
- Influenza vaccine or facility declination accepted (seasonal: Sept 1 – March 31).
- COVID-19 vaccine or declination accepted.
- MMR: 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster or declination accepted if low/equivocal.
- Hepatitis B: 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster or declination accepted if low/equivocal.
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster or declination accepted if low/equivocal.
- Tdap valid within 10 years; declination accepted.
- TB test proof of negative within past 2 years or appropriate documentation if prior positive.
- Fit test completed prior to start (approved mask types specified).
- Physician health statement within last 12 months.
- Color vision test within 1 year.
- Current driver’s license or state ID (valid throughout assignment).
Background & Verification
- Background check within 30 days of start including SS trace and county search for last 7 years.
- Iowa Adult and Child Abuse clearance.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM HHS/OIG check within 30 days of start.
- Social Security Number Inquiry (SING) within 30 days of start.
- References: 2 professional references required, including 1 supervisor.
- Resume or profile submission required.
- I-9 attestation on agency letterhead.
- Skills checklist completed within 12 months.
- Pre-orientation computer-based learning (CBL) acknowledgement.
- Epic registration acknowledgement form after registration completion.
- Contract employee data sheet.
Additional Information
- On-call schedule involves weekday and weekend rotations.
- Telemetry knowledge and dysrhythmia competency are essential.
- Must be able to respond within 30 minutes when on call.
This position is ideal for an experienced RN with PACU specialty who is comfortable with telemetry, EPIC system, and on-call duties in a fast-paced post-anesthesia care environment.
