Description
Registered Nurse – Stepdown / Immediate Care Unit
Location: Morgantown, West Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks (with possible extension)
Shift: Night shift, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
Schedule: 3 or 4 shifts per week (12-hour shifts), weekdays with some weekends
Patient Ratio: Typically 1:4, may flex to 1:5 in emergencies
Unit Acuity: Stepdown unit with patients similar to Progressive Care or Telemetry; acuity varies
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in West Virginia
- Minimum 2 years of Stepdown nursing experience, with at least 1 year of Stepdown experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Experience with telemetry monitoring
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification or competency
Additional Requirements
- Limit holiday time-off requests to no more than 2 of the 4 major holidays
- Weekend block schedules may be considered (Fri-Sun or Sat-Mon)
- Scrubs: Burgundy and/or white (not provided)
- Electronic Medical Record system: Cerner
Documentation & Compliance
Candidates must submit a single PDF containing:
- Candidate profile/work history
- Specialty-specific skills checklist (updated annually)
- Minimum 2 clinical manager/charge nurse references from the past 2 years
- RN license verification (recently pulled within 2 days of submission)
- Copies of all required certifications (no pending certifications allowed)
Background & Health Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried during work hours
- 7-year criminal background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- Education verification required
- Drug screen: 10-panel within 30 days of start, updated annually
- Physical exam: Initial and updated annually, attesting ability to meet physical demands
- Immunizations and titers (within 2 years or as specified):
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (preferred within 10 years)
- Negative TB test (2-step PPD within 1 year or equivalent) or chest X-ray if history positive
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella titers or vaccinations
- Hepatitis B titer, 3-series vaccine, or declination
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 13 – Apr 1)
- COVID-19 vaccination or declination required
Competencies & Training
- Color blindness testing required
- Competency exams as applicable
- Completion of Core Parts I, II, and III (HIPAA and facility-specific training)
- Facility-specific Care Learning Modules must be completed prior to start date
- Cerner EMR training modules must be completed before start (completion screenshot required)
- ReadySet (RS) health assessment surveys must be completed by facility deadlines
References & History
- Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations required
- Complete employment application/resume required
Notes
- Candidates must comply with all facility-specific forms and acknowledgments prior to start (e.g., confidentiality agreements, drug screen consent, parking pass)
- Point of Care Technician application required only for Cath Lab RNs (not applicable here)
- Scrubs are not provided; bring burgundy and/or white scrubs
This position offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity stepdown unit with a supportive team and a structured night shift schedule. Candidates should be comfortable with telemetry monitoring and managing a variable patient acuity mix.
