Registered Nurse - Emergency Department

Location: Rutherfordton, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

• Position in the Emergency Department (ED) of a 24-bed acute care facility
• Shift: 12:00 PM to 12:00 AM
• Weekly guaranteed hours: 36
• Weekend hours: Every other weekend
• No call requirements
• Patient population includes all ages
• Patient ratios:

  • Main area (12 beds): 4:1
  • Fast Track (5 rooms): 5:1
  • Extension from main (6 beds): 6:1 (with Medic and Charge assist)
• Electronic Health Record system: Meditech
• Primary Stroke Center and Chest Pain Accredited

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
• Minimum 1 year of Emergency Department (ED) experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Certifications required prior to start:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention Training (CPI)

Unit and Work Environment

• Emergency Department located on the ground floor
• No trauma designation
• Team-oriented environment requiring a well-rounded, team player personality
• Dress code: Scrubs of any color allowed; no derogatory expressions on attire

Common Diagnoses and Treatments

• Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)
• Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
• Cerebrovascular Accident (CVA) / Stroke
• Pneumonia

Additional Notes

• No float requirements
• Charge nurse primarily handles subwaiting room
• Local area offers access to historic landmarks and outdoor attractions such as Chimney Rock State Park and Lake Lure

This position is open to candidates located 60 miles or more from the facility to qualify as travel.
