Registered Nurse (MedSurg & Pediatrics) - Iowa, Carroll
Job Details
- Specialty: MedSurg & Pediatrics
- Location: Carroll, Iowa
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Nights
- Hours: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
- Schedule: 6-week cyclic schedules; attempts to accommodate scheduling needs but no guaranteed block scheduling
- Weekend Requirement: Every third weekend (Fri/Sat/Sun), flexible to Sat/Sun/Mon if needed
- Holiday Requirement: Yes, typically 1 major and 1 minor holiday depending on season and contract duration
Unit Information
- Unit: MedSurg/Pediatrics
- Beds: 19 (can overflow to CCU)
- Nurse:Patient Ratio: Goal 1:4, may be up to 1:6
- Nurse Aide Ratio: Goal 1:6 day shift, 1:8 night shift (varies by census and staffing)
- Patient Types: CHF, Pneumonia, COPD, Sepsis, joint replacements (knee, hip, shoulder), colon and general surgeries; Pediatrics commonly see RSV
- Drip Management: RNs required to titrate heparin drips
- Telemetry Monitoring: No dedicated monitor techs; CCU nurses monitor telemetry. Telemetry interpretation skills preferred but not required. Phillips monitors used.
- Floating: Must be able to float to CCU or OB; cross-training opportunities available for behavioral health and ER
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 3 years MedSurg/Pediatrics experience
- Travel Experience: Minimum 1 year prior travel experience required
- Certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), PALS
- License: Registered Nurse (RN) license required
Orientation & Culture
- Orientation: One 12-hour shift orientation specific to unit
- Culture: Positive work environment; emphasis on teamwork and engagement with quality projects and unit initiatives
- Med Drawer Access: Limited keys issued for med drawer access; keys must be signed out and returned each shift to avoid replacement fees
Dress Code
- Scrub colors allowed: Grey, Black, Pink, or White
