Description

Registered Nurse - Medical/Surgical

Location: Winchester, Indiana
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (13 weeks)
Shift: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM


Job Description

  • Provide direct nursing care following established policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Implement and monitor patient care plans.
  • Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition appropriately.
  • Coordinate care among all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care.
  • Execute physician and nursing orders.
  • Assess and coordinate patient discharge planning with the healthcare team.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana.
  • Minimum of 1 year of Medical-Surgical nursing experience within the last year.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Successful completion of Ascension Pharmacology Exam.
  • Successful completion of Ascension Medical Surgical Exam.
  • Successful completion of Ascension EKG Exam.
  • Completion of Ascension Core Competencies.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Valid Driver’s License.

Required Onboarding and Compliance

  • Completion of pharmacology and medical-surgical exams with a minimum score of 80%, updated every 3 years.
  • Completion of EKG exam with a minimum score of 80%, updated every 3 years.
  • Completion of core competencies including HIPAA, Joint Commission, NPSG, OSHA topics, updated every 3 years.
  • Completion of unit-specific checklist (optional but may be required by unit leader).
  • Completion of onboarding education attestation and contract worker onboarding process.
  • Submission of a forward-facing badge photo with white or blue background (no alterations).
  • Documentation of immunizations and health screenings:
    • MMR: Proof of two vaccines or positive IGG titer (no declinations accepted).
    • Varicella: Proof of two vaccines, immunity, or history verified by healthcare provider (no declinations accepted).
    • Tdap: Valid within 10 years (no declinations accepted).
    • Hepatitis B: Vaccination series completion or signed declination.
    • Influenza vaccine (optional; mask required if declined during flu season).
    • TB screening: 2-step PPD or IGRA within required timeframes; if positive, chest X-ray and annual questionnaire required.
  • Fit test for respiratory protection, preferably completed prior to start (annual update required).
  • Health statement or physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually.
  • 12-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start and annually thereafter.
  • Criminal background check including Social Security Trace, OIG Search, National Sex Offender Registry, and others within 90 days prior to start; updated annually or after breaks in service.
  • Employment and education verifications within 90 days prior to start; updated annually or after breaks in service.
  • Confirmation of assignment documentation upon initial assignment and extensions.
