Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Float Nurse

Location: Anderson, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 18:45 - 7:15)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Patient Ratio: 1:6


Job Description

  • Float position on a Medical Surgical unit (6 South) with requirement to float to other Medical Surgical units as needed.
  • Weekend work required every other weekend.
  • Open to local candidates and first-time travel nurses.
  • Block scheduling is not accommodated.
  • Must submit all Return to Office (RTO) requests with application.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in South Carolina.
  • Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Clinical and Compliance Requirements

  • Must be able to float to other Medical Surgical units as needed.
  • Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations required.
  • Complete employment application/resume.
  • Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and international background check if applicable.
  • Physical exam within 1 year confirming good health.
  • Drug screening: 9-panel drug test within 90 days of start.
  • Immunizations and titers required for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol.
  • Annual fit mask test required (N95 or equivalent).
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Nov 1 - Apr 1). Unvaccinated candidates must wear masks onsite.
  • Photo for badge required (no visible nose piercings allowed in photo).
  • Completion of facility-specific online orientation and acknowledgment prior to start.
  • Stroke education and acknowledgment required for candidates working over one year at the facility.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must renew certifications 15 days prior to expiration.
  • Facility enforces strict license verification and may suspend or terminate if license renewal is not validated timely.
  • Candidates must comply with all facility policies including COVID-19 and flu vaccination policies.
  • Prior travel experience is not required.
  • Locals are accepted and pending licenses are allowed if obtained before start date.

This position offers a structured night shift schedule with a focus on medical-surgical nursing and requires flexibility to float within similar units. It is suitable for RNs with at least 2 years of experience seeking a travel contract in South Carolina.
