Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical (Neuro Unit)
Location: Memphis, Tennessee
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Work on a Medical Surgical Neuro Unit with a strong emphasis on neurological experience.
- Patient ratio approximately 1:7 utilizing team nursing.
- Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM).
- Must live at least 100 miles from the facility.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Tennessee.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, with experience within the last year.
- Strong neurological experience.
- Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients.
- ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC).
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC).
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
Licensure
- Must have a current Tennessee RN license or a Compact RN license at time of application submission.
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or ARC only.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA or ARC only.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required and must be renewed annually (except for pediatric facilities).
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet job demands.
- Negative TB test (2-step PPD, Q-Gold, or T-spot) within 1 year; if positive, clear chest X-ray within 2 years plus annual TB questionnaire.
- Immunizations required: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (proof of 2 vaccines or positive antibody titers with boosters if needed).
- Hepatitis B vaccination series or positive titer or signed declination.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – Apr 30). Exemptions require mask wearing in patient areas.
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start date.
- Fit test for 3M N-95 masks within 1 year prior to start (must pass without limitations).
Background & Documentation
- Background check within 60 days of start including statewide, county, federal, and education verification.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and annually thereafter.
- Sex offender search and Tennessee Adult Abuse Registry search required.
- Education verification required (diploma/transcript not accepted in lieu).
- Two recent professional references required.
- Internal evaluation required if employed with agency for 1 year or more.
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Photo for badge must be submitted on time with strict guidelines (passport-style, no glasses, no head coverings except religious, no piercings visible).
- Dress code: Navy blue scrubs for RNs; no prints or embroidered scrubs allowed.
- Confidentiality acknowledgment must be signed prior to start.
- EPIC questionnaire required for RNs; EPIC experience may allow testing out of training.
- Onsite fit test and questionnaire must be completed prior to start.
Additional Notes
- Return to Offer (RTO) must be submitted at time of application; late submissions will not be accepted.
- Candidates may only apply to one job ID per facility.
This position is ideal for experienced Medical Surgical RNs with strong neurological skills and prior travel contract experience seeking a 13-week travel assignment on a day shift in a Level 1 Trauma hospital setting.
