Description
Medical ICU RN Travel Assignment
Location: Fort Wayne, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Medical ICU Registered Nurse for a travel assignment in a mixed acuity unit primarily caring for Progressive Care Unit (PCU) patients with some ICU patients. The role involves caring for ventilated and critically ill patients, including those with sepsis, respiratory failure, renal failure, myocardial infarctions, pulmonary embolism, and pneumonia.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Indiana
- Critical Care Float experience with a minimum of 1.5 years, including experience within the last year
- ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience
- PCU (Progressive Care Unit) experience
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Work Environment & Patient Care
- Mixed acuity unit: PCU patients (1:3 nurse-to-patient ratio) and ICU patients (1:2 ratio)
- Floating to all ICU, PCU, and Medsurg units with a maximum 1:3 ratio
- Unit bed size: 24 Medical ICU beds, 12 Progressive Care beds
- Equipment used: Phillips heart monitors, Epic EMR, Pyxis, EKG machine, dopplers
- Procedures include ventilator care, IV drip initiation and titration (vasopressors, sedation, paralytics), assisting with intubations and line placements
Schedule
- Three 12-hour day shifts per week (e.g., 3 am to 3 pm)
- Traditional weekday plus weekend rotation
- Nurses will not work alone
Orientation & Training
- 8 hours of non-billable orientation (one day of unit onboarding)
- Onboarding includes workforce development training, policy review, and Epic EMR access
Additional Information
- Dress code: Caribbean blue scrubs; jackets must be black, white, or Caribbean blue; undershirts must be black or white, short or long sleeves
- Call-off policy: Client may cancel up to 24 hours before shift for the 13-week assignment
- Local travelers within 50 miles may be accepted with adjusted terms (not detailed here)
