Description
Registered Nurse (MS/Telemetry) - Travel/Contract
Location: Wilmington, North Carolina
Contract Length: 16 weeks
Shift: Night (18:45 - 07:15), 3 shifts per week, 36 hours/week
Patient Ratio: 1:6
Scheduling: Self-scheduled
Orientation: 24 hours
Float Requirement: Yes, may float to main campus (~32 minutes away)
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Call Requirement: None
Return to Office (RTO): Maximum 7 days
Job Description
- Care for patients with diagnoses including diabetes, dementia, COVID, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, GI bleed, anemia, hip fracture, CHF, UTI, renal failure, hypertension, cellulitis, failure to thrive, and various surgical recoveries.
- Unit uses Pyxis medication system and electronic documentation.
- Must be able to work holidays.
- Contract staff may be assigned to Storm/Hurricane Teams and may be required to report during catastrophic events or disasters.
- Possible mid-contract consolidation and reassignment to different units as needed.
Required Skills & Experience
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina.
- Minimum 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience, with experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
Preferred Skills & Certifications
- ACLS certification.
- Experience with telemetry on-unit monitoring.
- Post angiogram, post cardiac surgery, post MI care.
- IV insulin protocols, bariatric surgery care, continuous bladder irrigation (CBI).
- Accessing/managing ports, cerebrovascular accident (CVA) care, substance withdrawal management.
- Surgical drains, arterial blood gas (ABG) interpretation.
- Pre/post thoracic surgery care, tracheostomy care.
- Previous charge nurse experience.
- Community hospital experience.
- Electronic documentation proficiency.
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Licensing
- Must hold an active Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in North Carolina.
Compliance & Testing Requirements
- Background check within 6 months prior to start.
- Drug screening (9-panel) within 6 months prior to start.
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year of start; if past positive TB, additional documentation required.
- Required immunizations or titers: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella.
- Flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season; mask required if exempt.
- Color blindness testing within 1 year.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam with minimum 82% score, to be completed within 72 hours of assignment start.
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam required for new contracts.
- Physical exam as per travel agency standards (not required by client for this crisis profile).
Orientation & Training
- 24-hour unit orientation required.
- Must complete facility-specific education modules including medication safety, confidentiality agreement, hospital policies, and annual compliance training.
- Must complete Non-Novant Health Worker Clinical Education Checklist (for North Carolina travel candidates).
- Must complete Corporate ID setup and I-Learn login within 24 hours of receiving credentials.
- Photo for badge required immediately after signing contract (passport style, solid white background, business attire).
Additional Information
- Scrubs: Navy blue or white.
- No block schedules allowed except weekend blocks.
- Must be able to work holidays.
- Must be prepared to float to other units as needed.
- No call requirement.
- Contract staff may be required to participate in disaster response teams.
